Another cracking day, though a bit windy, making it hard to cover the ventilation panels on the side of the polytunnel with sheets of plastic. 'Tis done, but I don't remember being this late in previous years.:o Now the only ventilation is under the rear doors, which I allow, because it needs some, and besides, our resident wrens can get under there and keep the greenfly at bay.
Oh dear, I'm having second thoughts about removing the Aga next spring!:( When the weather turns miserable and the days are short, there's something very comforting about a big kitchen with a cast iron range in it. In the summer, I don't give a thought to it, but now......I can almost forgive the £35-40 a week it costs to run! :rotfl:
DW remembered today that we have a big pile of polystyrene batts about 50mm thick down in the barn. They are part of some commercial benching. Anyway, we might bring them up to the house soon and lay them crossways over the loft timbers to make some temporary insulation till the real stuff comes.0 -

I er...will though.
Yes. I will.
Plenty of time to prune those trees. We've left it till February without anything dire happening.
How's the new old car? Mine is telling me it needs a service, but I'm showing it who's boss.0 -
having had the expense of on average £50 week on generator fuel previously.... i would jump for joy if i could have an AGA :j:j nothing else can cook meat like an aggie. i have aggie envy when i am in a house with one..0

Cold day & had to untangle two lambs from brambles & carry them a distance. That was an exercise before lunch. Snapped up loads of twigs for
Kindlers - something very satisfying about using up stuff that is just lying about as 'clutter' on the ground. Noticed some raspberries out - I'd forgotten about them as they didn't do much & have just been neglected.
There seems to be reeds growing up around them. I should make some more effort outdoors. I must empty the wood burner ash around them....at the least....to ease the guilt a little.
There's nowt wrong with a Rayburn Alf for cooking meat & heating the place & providing all your hot water. So, who needs a snooty AGA...They are lovely, but there are alternatives.
Reminds me as I was just looking for new wellys & they are all Hunters on Ebay. It's like everyone wants the 'Name'.0 -

Alfie - I'm a size 6, but I would buy them as the ones I had split & they weren't that old so I took them back & they offered me a new pair but they all looked like seconds so I declined & got me money back. I do need them as it is so wet here.0

Alfie - those are too good for here. It's like Glastonbury on rough jagged terrain. Mud, mud & water clogged ground.0

They do have a 'following',' but I'd guess there's nothing much between an Aga, Rayburn or Stanley, particularly from the era ours was made....about 50 or 60 years ago.
But the point is, it's already here, doesn't need electricity, and the servicing etc is minimal. Besides, if we kept it, DW wouldn't want two electric ovens and I'd not need an electric kettle all winter.
I'm thinking of all the reasons to keep it now! :rotfl:0
