Yes, kitchen woodburner went on today,
Well, famously, there was '76, which I remember well, when the Avon in Bath turned red with algae....
Since we've been here, there have been few occasions when the stream has been dry for months, other than last year and this year. Last year I was aware of the drought because we were roofing, but this year it's been worse, because we've lost hedging that came through 2014 unscathed. Half of a cotoneaster hedge dead, not that you''ll mourn it, I know! :rotfl:
My memory is poor, but I do remember some ridiculously good spring days.
Everyone I've spoken to here says what a bad year it's been for growing. I was beginning to think it was the compost.....or me!0 -

I second that, you know we are there if we can help and if you are ever my way there is always a load of coffee and oodles of cake as well as listening ear.
This thread and the wonderful people who post have supported me through more than you will ever know and for that I am grateful, so remember we are here if neededTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Nothing happened today.:(
Electricians didn't come, plumber didn't return my call and Outlaws went shopping instead of calling-in.
So, we didn't begin anything major and stayed prepared for interruptions that didn't occur......
Then, tonight, when I decided I'd not bother ringing anyone, the phone went red hot. Builder, plumber, kitchen guy and electricians all booked-in for first half of next week.
Glad you have landed a job CTC. :jAs one door closes......0 -
OH's appointment at the hospital with locum surgeon this afternoon - handed a letter today at 1.30pm to say he'd have to appear for op at 8am Monday.
Changed to the 24th as house won't be fit for him coming home. What a weird day.
Saw x rays & surgeon couldn't believe that OH can actually walk let alone drive - he also is concerned about his back which hasn't been helped because of the way he's had to walk & how long that has been going on - he want's him referred to a spinal unit after the op.
It seems it could be a long recovery. Depends - each person different.
Well - glad that Mr Choille is in the system but really don't know what to think re everything else.
Just had to go out with the torch as hissing & spitting & growling & bangs under the caravan. Gut big ginger powder puff & hairy cat having a reet set too.0 -

DW is 'in the system' too. She has the results of MRI which show a hip problem (not replacement of joint) and a couple of collapsed discs. This is without investigating her knee, which she thinks is something else.
There's a few other things as well...:(
So I don't know what to think either, except that we have been sensible considering re-sale when choosing stuff and taking decisions here.
Hopefully, it won't come to that any time too soon, but I'm not getting any younger.
OTOH, I might get old quite quickly if I could laze about!0 -
Goodness Dave - Does make you think.
DW maybe will get faster treated.
I think the admin in Raigmore is dreadful & also they are so far behind with waiting lists they've drafted this surgeon in from Yorkshire.
Hope that DW is not in too much pain. Is it arthitis?
Dull & drizzly here & feels cold.0 -
A gloriously sunny day here
Sorry to hear so many people are unwell or in pain atm, I hope that things get sorted soon and that recovery is smooth and swift.
We have decided to fill in a couple of our vegetable beds and let them return to lawn. My OH does not have the health to keep on top of them and I have not got enough time. So we are going to get that done over the next few weeks and then next year we will just have the three raised beds to worry about. If we find that we get back into the growing groove we can add more in the future.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Nice day with me, so just taking a breather from tidying garden and cutting grass.
My attempt to grow lithops (living stones) from seed has failed - the plastic bag got punctured and they dessicated. Anyhow, will be planting up the cactus terrarium now that the activated charcoal to absorb any nasties has been delivered.0 -
Rummer - that sounds like a plan. Good for you being organised. I just un about like headless chicken & the place is chaos.
Tuned out nicer today than it started so washing on the line -makes a change.
Supposed to be a good day tomorrow.0 -
The thing is Choille, I have not been organised just barely scraping by. the garden looks thrown together and the beds at the side are over grown. I need to realise that I don't have time to create the life I really want and some things have to go.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
