I've been a little quiet because the changing pressure makes me sleepier.
. Its been incredible weather, but I'm fearsomely behind on dead heading etc, because I just cannot stay awake long enough ATM. Ooops.
Will attack tomorrow I hope!0 -
LIR...fingers crossed the weather will change, and you will be feeling a bit better..
Choulle.. Haven't got time to make planters etc at mo..
I bought some geraniums from Morrison's a while back, think they worked out about 30p each, planted them up and left them grow on to big chunky plants, first lot went for £1 per plant, and this lot went for £2 a plant, as they were just about to flower..
I have 3 ltre pots full of parsley that I sowed a few weeks back.. Fingers crossed thy will be ready to take to the next small auction in 2 weeks.. I had 6 3 ltre pots done with 80p worth of seeds (2 packs) ..
So I am going down the route of a little of alot of things, to edge my bets, and things that if I lose. Oney, then its only pennies lolWork to live= not live to work0 -
CTC, I had a look ast the autumn plug plants, and I'd guess the polyanthus and pansies would be favourites there, but do you think there's enough demand? We never sold after October, so I'm unaware of the market at that time of year. I suppose we'll keep going at the village market till then, but no later.
Delivered the van for a service and MoT, so now all that is in the lap of the gods....
Some good friends have watched our building work with interest, as they've inherited the wherewithal to develop the part of their property which is not currently a 'house.' It would be good for our builder if he could have a part in that when he finishes here, but maybe they'll not go for the small scale approach. It does drag out! We've been going more than a year now....and it feels like two!!!:rotfl:0 -
CTC, I am always impressed by your diversified approach. Do you have the space now with the poly tunnel to really focus on the plants? In the longer term how about Aquilegia? They look quite unusual and mine seed wildly so one an initial outlay is made they are self seeding saving more pennies.
I also really like succulents and they are hard to come by. It could be a plan to have the regular plants people go for and a few unusual thing that you could charge a bit more for.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
We are still mulling over our patio and the best layout for it. There are steps down from the front door to a rectangular patio that runs the width of the house then steps down to the lawn.
The problem is that the patio is quite narrow and is a bit uneven. I want it to be a relaxing area to sit and entertain so we need seating and a table/small tables that are not too large for the space so we can travel from one side to the other.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
RE aquilegia. Good plant, but it's easy to grow too many dull ones that no one wants, and you don't find out what they will be till you've had them ages!
Had this problem this year, thanks to a rather poor seed mixture I purchased.:o
The only way around this is to grow guaranteed mixtures e.g Mc Kana hybrids, or species. e.g. A skinneri.....or have a very good 'bank' of ruthlessly selected plants of your own for seed.
But aquilegia are seriously under threat from a new disease specific to them, so a bad bet at present.
No word from the garage. No news is good news....I hope!:)0 -
hi all
I was thinking about what plants you could do CTC..
hows about getting flat seed trays and planting them up with wild/bee/butterfly mix [like my wheelbarrows] so they can be lifted out like a turf for people to replant ? if they bought them half grown they could easily create their own "patch" .... easy to do and I reckon people would pay for that ???
just been to scats for supplies and followed a very SLOOOOOW driver through the lanes on way back [20mph] ... they crossed the cattle grid forest boundary and took off like a bat out of hell !!! the forest is 40mph and I reckon they hit 70mph !! I just don't get it ??
its been a lovely day here , about 20-22d, slight breeze. having to water the garden almost daily.0 -
Was think ng of things I could sell in September/ October, and as you said Davesnave there's a quiet gap then.. If I can't get hold of my friend ( she's moved) I will utube Christmas wreaths.. To start getting an idea on what will look good etc..
Went to local national garden centre, and bought 2 trays of marigolds, down to 10p per tray, also done some volunteering work by dead heading the ' dried and seed saving ready' marigolds from the other trays...;)... Thought I would save on their waste cost too by putting them in my pocket to take home with mea;)
I will have more than 20p's worth of seeds ready for next year .. ( sold all of this years marigolds I sowed, and forgot to keep some back for the seeds l
Fingers crossed the van passed not with flying colours...
Runner... Lol, I am a bit of a Del Boy. And even if it only makes pennies, pennies add up lolWork to live= not live to work0 -
CTC I do think it is the best approach for small businesses as then the risk is spread and every penny counts. It is important though that you don't spread yourself too thin.
In my autumn pots I had cyclamen and pansies although I have no idea how easy/cost effective they are to grow as I got them from the garden centre.
How about over the autumn/winter focussing on indoor plants? Our Christmas cactus came from one leaf and we also have Oxalis which I adore.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Oh dear, lost a fish
They dart about so quickly it's hard to notice if you have 7 or 8, but really counted today and it was 7 and located the husk on the gravel.
Had to give the tank a major water change and gravel clean with the syphon and now all the other fish are stressing and in hiding. Once in a while one will dart out then hide again - hopefully they'll settle down overnight.0
