IHS your front garden sounds exactly like mine, any plants you would recommend?

Plants I've found that grow fine in wet clay and/or shade in my garden -

    Dogwoods
    Climbing hydrangea
    Hebe
    Dwarf Thuja occidentalis
Carex (esp. 'Frosted Curls' or the thug Carex Pendula)
    Luzula sylvatica 'Aurea'
    Irish Yew
    Phlox
    Hosta (esp. Big Daddy)
    Shield Ferns
    Astilbe
    Ligularia 'The Rocket'
    Geum
    Siberian iris
    Shasta diasy
Persicaria bistorta ‘Superba’ (bit of a thug!)
Alchemilla mollis, which has gone mad with me this year
    Brunnera
    Lamium
Pachysandra terminalis (not yet sure it'll get through a really cold winter)

Thank you IHS I have been googling your suggestions and along with the suggestions Dave has made I now have a good list of plants to explore.

Rumlet is absolutely delightful Alfie :D he adores being in the garden and exploring nature which is lovely to see. We now have quite the treasure collection that he has gathered out on walks and visits to the beach. Who would have thought stones could bring such joy :)

The weather is nice here and I am trying to build myself up to tackling the knee high lawn :o A house near us has made their front lawn into a wild flower patch and it is gorgeous. I would really like to do that here (not just because I intensely dislike my front garden) however I know that it is not as easy as it looks to create and at the moment it is awash with creeping buttercups.

OH has decided that he would like a cuttings garden so I am going to have a look at higgledy to find a seed mix that will give us cuttings for as long a season as possible. There is a nice sunny patch just ready for such a thing :D

Right I should get going as Rumlet is heading for a nap :)

Yes, CTC - we have just had a deluge & now the midgies are out in mobs.

Lovely to hear about Rumlet & your plans for gardening. I have found that my hydrangeas make wonderful & very long lasting cut flowers. Not really great for the caravan as not enough space, but make a fantastic bunch for giving & also I'll have them in the house once we are in. I love the way they change colour.
Saw a bit of gardening programme about roses &, although I didn't like them when I was younger - I'm really getting them now. I am looking for a Rosa Mundi - the apothecary rose. I shall make hand balm when I do get one growing & flowering.

Choille, I adore hydrangeas however I am not sure where in the garden we could put some?

It was lovely walking round the garden earlier and pointing out to OH and Rumlet the plants that have come from the lovely people on here, they really have created a story in my garden :D

It makes sense to me.....We had a big flash & bang about 2 hours ago, and since then, no phone! :(

Reporting this via BT's automatic system, I'm told they are working on it at the exchange and they expect us to have a service again on......Thursday tea time!!!!:mad::eek:
