Oooh! lLots to look at there and not much time just now, so I'll be back later, narcolepsy permitting.
I'm already intrigued by what it is that's growing behind the gryphon....Is it in a pond?
The rest of the day for me was not good, so I'm off to comfort eat!:o

As it happens the planners want to see income, as I made my planning app on the agricultural part of the property and I have to show viability as a business. But other than this, no one seems interested :undecided
well for one ... if its agricultural different rules apply for planning ie is it for /essential to aid/assist your agricultural business .... as opposed to just wanting to add another bathroom
Who do you have to register the holiday let with? It's not something I've come across as I said before, who should I be declaring it to?
well here it is with the county council who then checks premises yearly...............
And as I also said, if you meet the valuation office criteria on things like occupancy over a given period, and other stuff, I forget now, you qualify for business rates BUT based on their valuation of my property/business the rates were zero, possibly due to some local small business relief type of thing, Really can't remember the detail, and clearly it differs from place to place.
I'm not sure what difference having a mortgage makes to business rates, it was explained to me as above. but we do indeed have a mortgage, on both our properties, I wouldn't be on a money saving website if I didn't need a mortgage to buy a house.
.here a" buy to let" mortgage is a higher percentage and if not declared as such then the mortgage company can withdraw the mortgage.. plus normal house insurance is different too.
In any case, whatever the costs involved That house is not about making a profit for us, at least not yet, I'm just happy for it to pay for itself. I think I've said before that it's my pension pot - whether thats rental income, or we sell it, or we move into it and sell our own home.
It comes back to self sufficiency - I'm sure as $h!t not relying on the state to sort me out with a pension, which probably wouldn't kick in til my eighties, with retirement ages creeping up like they are.
You can tell I've Been listening to way too many politicians lately, I almost went off on one there :rotfl:
I am totally fed up off the lot of em spending more time argueing with each other and never answering a question directly !!0 -
I think the politics in Scotland is a lot more interesting. People are really engaged & I think it will be a very high turn out again here. But the three main male headed parties are sooooooooooooooo boring.
Got some more plaster boarding done today. Cold wind, but bright & managed to get some wood sawn up & a bit of a tidy up outside as it does look like a tinkers encampment again.0 -
well, ive booked my holiday and we sat looking at the array of hotels and after finger hovering over the sensible priced ones we bit the bullet and went for the 5* posh'en....
:j
its not one of those big ugly multi stories.. it has 12 rooms and weve booked the "superior suite" :rotfl:swimmimg pool, massages etc.. half board [so if we get skint we wont starve !;) ]
we even get a private car pick us up from the airport ! we'd be on a rickety old bus if wed gone cheap :rotfl:
we both said "oh lets live !".....:D
so we will be the raggedy annes amongst the hoipaloi ....0 -
Poor old dog and lurcher! Neither had much of a day, so let's hope the weekend is kinder to them. :A
The garden looks really interesting already. phoebe, with different levels, nooks & sheltered wall spaces, not to mention a mini woodland. That's the sort of garden I like and lack, especially the hard landscaping.
This afternoon things went from bad to worse when Izzy was so hotly pursued by the manic Bengal they almost toppled me. I managed to raise one foot when they came racing around a corner, and both shot underneath it, fortunately.
Izzy got away that time, but it's beginning to look as if we may have to take action if our moggies are to be safe and relaxed. Put it another way, both of our cats were chased by Horse Woman's wolf hound late this afternoon, but neither was anywhere near as worried as they are when that other cat shows up!
In the house, things didn't go well either. I was absent checking-up on the hens and poly for a few minutes, and when I returned, the plumber had just removed the woodburner's heat sink radiator and associated pipework! He was supposed to be dismantling the Aga's pipes, but the two are close together and almost intertwined.....I had explained it all to him earlier, but I knew he hadn't listened....
It was an unusual size of pipe in an awkward place, so it took the rest of the afternoon to reinstate the radiator. The prospect of the next few days without some kind of decent heat source wasn't something I wanted to think about!0 -
goodness me dave... have you got mr bean there !!
taking the expression "three steps forward, two back "to a new level !!!
p.s. is the Bengal a male ? or hasn't your "foot" got close enough to "lift" it to look ........0 -

Thank you Dave
Yes, it's definitely interesting, which is one of the things that attracted us (obviously the style and character of the house being the main one), although when we first viewed late July last year you couldn't see much actual garden as everything was so overgrown. In fact the EA showing us over merely apologised for it being so small - granted it is smaller than our last garden, but there's also way more going on which we love
That is a pond behind the gryphon btwIt has been allowed to get overrun with not particularly attractive pond plants which really need thinning out and replacing with something more impressive......our Spanish Water Dog has the right idea - she keeps diving in and uprooting them lol :rotfl:
Sounds as though you've had a day that's best forgotten today - hope you've had a chance to relax this evening over a comforting meal and something alcoholic.....
BD, we picked up the snail last week at the Plant Hunter's Fair. I've got the details for the company's website somewhere, think they're based in Gloucs.....will try to dig them out over the weekend x
Edited to add - re the french windows etc.....yes, they are the original 1920s metal Crittall windows. I was never keen on this type of window before, but think they really suit the house.....although there are rather a lot of them!Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Hope everyone's animals have a better time.
Alfie sounds like a fab holiday planned. Good for you.

Morning all, we had a bit of a bad afternoon, the factory owner now owns our road, and we had a very !!!!!! letter off him to remove sons car that broke down 2 weeks ago, and is stripping down to pay for his new car. We rushed over to the land registry and they confirmed it...
While going there I had an awful pain in my right shoulder/ upper arm, didn't think anything of it, then at the land registry I had one of my ' moments' where I go all disorinentated for a few seconds, about an hour layer when we were outside deciding whether to grind down our front garden wall to put the car in there ( we were told in the letter we are basically lowering the toneand have no regard for our neighbours) which we don't give a monkeys about lol. My vision starting gowing, and my co ordination went.. It went on for a few minutes, hubby and youngest had to carry me into the house.. I have never been like that before it REALLY frightened me... The back of my head really hurt, and afterwards it felt like someone had hit me in the mouth with a basevpball bat, as my teeth were really aching...haven't moved off the sofa since... Think I should have gone to hospital ( hubby wanted to take me) so going to go to the Dr on Tuesday...
He has bought our road as didn't have access rights to the land by the side of our house, so he bought our road of the land developers, as it was on arsda' s lease.. So now potentially we can have flip knows traffic going back and for the front of houses, and the road was only for access for our 4 houses..Work to live= not live to work0 -
I love the garden pics, phoebe, and while its a pain having a listed house they are just so pleasing to the eye, I find that really comforting and realise how I miss that, when travelling round.
Sadly there are no listed buildings round here, there aren't many attractive buildings full stop. Before people started pebble dashing all the houses the street scene in this village was worth saving, a lot of the older houses are stone built and look like CTCs under all the ugliness.
Choille are you lambing this year? My girls have all put the brakes on after a flurry of lambs and kids together. one of the older ewes has udders down to her knees, I was so sure she'd lamb today. I would have had to name the lamb after the royal baby!
I don't know how much longer I can keep getting up so early, though on the plus side the whole morning's work is done by 7.30, so I won't have to get wet doing anything later, and I have a 12 hour day ahead of me to do other stuff.
I was going to say that the baby news coverage is a break from the election but the BBC is cleverly combining the two, they're asking David Cameron to comment on the baby at the start of his interview!
CTC how was the auction, anything interesting? I should be keeping an eye on prices, not that I buy often, and I never sell but just to follow the market.
Hmmmm, might have to have another cuppa and plan out my day. I'm not great at prioritising, but as I'm ahead of the game animal wise I think I can concentrate on indoors jobs today.
I must try to make the most of the peace, I'm reminded reading here that when the electrician, plumber and builders start turning up from next week I won't know which way is up!0
