Really hailed last night, but the sun is out now.0

Very chilly here today - think we may have a log fire later
Not that it's anything like the weather where you are ChoillePleased to hear your kitchen is taking shape and that you're happy with your island which sounds fab, btw!
Sorry, CTC - I completely forgot to respond to your PM, apologies......
Great news about the *hosses* Alfie
Lovely pics Maggie - it all looks very neat to me
Dave, I've not been to the hairdresser for about twenty years - I did almost take the plunge when we moved here, but chickened out. It's more like torture than pleasure to me and I'd rather save money by cutting mine myself, which when it's just long and straight(ish) as mine is, is easy peasyMortgage-free for fourteen years!

On a roll this week alfie - hosses sorted and now Mum's house.
:D:D Great news.
Don't envy your kitchen expeditions Dave. This chap supplied our doors and some carcasses as well http://kitchendoorsandmore.com/index.html - lots of choice - anything like this near you?
Been very chilly here today, cold westerly wind, and more with rain to come if the BBC is to be believed. Sat in the greenhouse for half an hour for a bit of fresh air out of the cold wind, nice to get out of the house for a change of scene.
Anyone got any tips for getting their chickens to lay? Ours are stubbornly refusing. I've cut down on treats, and Mr BD says they are eating more of their layers pellets - but no eggs for months now.
How's your garden coming along phoebe? Any nice surpises?
Love your lottie pics maggie - been having a bath while you're there?
Old dog not doing well today, but she didn't keep her painkiller down this morning, which wont have helped. Last day on antibiotics, see how she is over the next few days and then decide what to do. She's a lot better than she was, but still not as she was before horrible tummy bug:( Had her evening dose of gabapentin a little while ago, so she should be zonked out in a happy haze shortly

better days.... play the chooks a tape of a rooster crowing... create a bit of competition0

Hi BD, sorry to hear Old Dog isn't doing so well
She really is hanging on in there - it must be so difficult for you all though {{{Hugs}}} to you guys x
The garden is progressingand yielding up a few surprises, such as a large Weigela and an even larger Fuschia (not my favourite plant unfortunately, lol!), plus there are several well-established Peonies dotted around that I hadn't noticed before. There are also lots of *mystery* plants coming up in the beds - hopefully not all weeds, but hard to tell as some are still quite tiny.
The mahoosive Wisteria is gradually enveloping the garden front of the house in swathes of mauve and other treasures such as a mature fig against the wall by the pond are starting to leaf.....
There are still a few unidentified shrubs (with few leaves at present) so who knows what else we might have here?
Most of the plants we brought with us are doing ok too, although the Wisteria Venusta Alba has very few buds - most likely had its nose put out by its big brother :rotfl: - whereas a yellow standard Rose is flowering profusely already.
Note to self: I really must get some pics up
Alfie, that's really brilliant news for your mum - hope she gets just as lucky with finding the flat she wantsMortgage-free for fourteen years!

Thanks phoebe :A. Old dog had a good night and is currently snoring happily.
I'd love to see your garden photo's especially the wisteriaI like fuchsia's for their long flowering season, had some in hanging baskets last year and they did really well. Mystery plants are great, you just need good 'weed recognition' too (which I am pants at - I tend to give the benefit of the doubt!). Peonies are so pretty, and the flowers on the Weigelia delicate - have you got the variegated one?
Year before last I grew some annual dwarf Laveteria, which did really well, so have started some more off again. Found some mangy toos in my seed box, thought of you all, so planted some in the raised bed and Mr BD planted some seed potatoes which a neighbour kindly gave us. And I was ahead of Monty Don - tidying up my herb bed the week before it was on GW:):)
Chilly here again today with rain forecast. Hope you all escape the snow and keep warm.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Hee-hee , we need more than a makeover in our kitchen, Better Days. Let's face it, what with having the roof off, the ceiling down, the Aga out and the whole thing re-wired and re-plastered and re-floored, it wouldn't make sense to do anything other than a full replacement. I can't wait to turn the thing to matchwood, it's so vile!
Good that old dog is at least still sleeping OK .
You don't think perhaps your hens have maybe run out of eggs......? Do you know how long they were laying before they were rescued?
One of our Welsummers didn't lay much last year and didn't come into lay this spring, so I said to DW I would do the deed soon....whereopon she began laying! What will you do if they're now barren?
Not much to report here. I am varnishing doors, which is a job that takes ages to do properly. I've 10 to do.......:(:(:(
A friend asked if we'd like to go to this:
http://www.tobygardenfest.co.uk/pages/show-highlights
DW is going, but I refused, as we did loads of that and I'd much rather visit individual gardens or nurseries. It will give me a quiet day here, though, when I can garden properly, instead of rushing around, trying to hold it all together amid building work.

Thanks and well done, CTC.:T
I have a stash from an old nursery here where the owner decided he'd not be selling again, plus all the secondhand pots people gave us when we were 'posh' and needed specific sizes. (so we didn't use them)
