ferretkeeper wrote: »Thanks CTC, just what I was thinking! I had too much to do this morning so decided IF I go it'll be over the weekend, and depending what hubby is up to and when we can speak, I'll go the Opposite Day.
I was also thinking about the bargains I might pick up if I went on Sunday
I'm really going for a recce, see what the stands are like, footfall, and types of stands vs cost, as it may be a good venue for me to have a stand next year. So technically I'd be working :rotfl:
don't hold your breath lol... friends of ours trade up there, and they are very strict on what stands they have... got to be plant/flower related, and as far as I am aware, it is quite expensive... especially compared with the smallholders show..
what was you thinking of selling???.. if it is plants then Davesnave might be able to give you a few pointers in rhs shows etc...
Just finished sowing some more seeds... I am in two minds to sow some more of the mangy too's .. all the ones I have sown are coming on nicely, so was thinking I might be able to sell some of them ones... at the farm auction...along with some rhubarb plants etc...Work to live= not live to work0 -

LOL No way would I try and sell plants at an RHS show!
I was thinking along the crafty lines, I've got a few ideas but I want to see what other people are doing, see what might be missing. that's the only way I stand a chance of getting into shows like this, to be completely different from what they already have. the types of stands are priced per metre so it'll be helpful to see them in situ. And I get a day out
Perfect day for working outdoors today, not too hot, not raining! And there's still a good couple of hours daylight left. Noticed a few trays of seeds I sowed at the weekend are germinating already in the propagator, so must keep an eye on them. I really should check the long range forecast for cold spells, then I can decide where to grow them on.
And out driving today there's blossom and leaves on the trees and hedgerows, the fields of rape are flowering, bluebells and primroses on the verges, proper spring :j:j:j0 -
Mum having some good days and bad days, rather short of breath today so they were planning a chest X-ray. Just taking each day as it comes.
Primulas doing well in wet, shady corner -0 -
hi all...
CTC... yes we had a written agreement .
LIR... thing was the lady said it would be VERY long term and that's one of the reasons we had them, she told me the expense was too much for them as she couldn't work now nor could she care for them. ive checked an we've had them just under 2 years, not quite "long term" I fully understand they are hers.......... just came out of the blue.:( wont do it again !!
went to see dad today and called in to pet store to get owl /dog/cat food and saw a notice for pekin bantams... im a sucker for punishment.... ended up with 7 hens... FREE.. :j
one year old and laying. lovely healthy birds.
ive got to watch out I don't over compensate losing my 2 big babies !!:o
been a dry but cool day here.. where you don't take a coat and wish you had... :rotfl:0 -
No, I'm not keen to take loans with no defined term either Alfie. Its a lot of heartbreak and effort for someone else's beck and call generally.0

yep, even crafty stuff has got to be flower/plant enriched so to speak, our friends make leather handbags, and they could only have a stand because some of their bags had 'flower' designs on them.. so bare this in mind when you are thinking of crafty ideas... flowers, garden, plants etcWork to live= not live to work0 -
RHS shows? Not my thing, although we could do the local plant fairs held in Rosemoor if we wanted to. They aren't that special.
Well our afternoon out yesterday to Castle Hill Gardens was a treat and a typical Devon farce all in one. When we arrived at around 14.30, the lady on duty had only just heard they were in the free admission thing, but as there seemed to be no one there, perhaps that didn't matter! :rotfl:
The weather was dull, but the rain almost held off, so we did a full tour of the gardens which are park-like, pretty fabulous and very well maintained. They have all the usual features of Georgian gardens like temples, ruined castle, follies etc, but on a human scale, and the walled garden is relatively modest too.
The estate covers 5000 acres, so they were able to landscape on a grand scale in that respect, by placing churches and some of the whimsical buildings at distance....further than we could walk in a few hours anyway.
So, we had it to ourselves.:D Seemed a shame for those who could have visited for free, but we'll go back again in late summer when it will be quiet again.
Piccies to follow....0 -
morning all,
could sleep last night so was on the old puter until silly o'clock..
just having a cuppa, and then going to the little poultry and crap auction... it isn't much to speak about, and if go there for the first time, you would prob turnaround and go straight back ut.. but I have been going to this auction for years and years in its various places... and its the 'crack'/laugh that is the main attraction with it, plus you can pick up the odd gem of a bargain, if you are forward thinking with the crap lol... same as the birds.. you get the odd pen of really good quality birds that as a great price..
taking some crap to sell, so even if we get 50p or £1 its ok, as its that type of auction lolWork to live= not live to work0 -
Hi all,
Well, after a problematic start - issues with Virgin broadband causing listing problems - the sales have started rolling in (£1200+ so far) so DH is a happy bunny, although he was up till gone 4am prepping for today!
Off out for brunch soon at one of the village coffee shops - there are five to choose from in walking distance, but one is so much more popular than the rest there's little chance of getting in unless you book days in advance - will probably try the newly refurbed one for a change
I was hoping for a visit to a garden centre we've not yet been to at some point today, but once we're back from the village DH will be busy with more listing/parcels so that's unlikely. I need to find something fast growing and giving instant height to an area of the garden where you can see a ghastly newish build house from our terrace. Have temporarily planted bamboos there, but not happy with this......don't want Leylandii obviously - although in the past someone did plant a few in the gardenAs we have an article 4(2) direction we'd need permission to remove (anything over 6cm girth) so for now they stay......
Dave - your garden visit sounds wonderful - lucky you having the place to yourselves - reminds me I need to look into which gardens round here are taking part in the National Gardens open days later in the year for future reference......and to check when Wollerton Old Hall garden is open as I'm really keen to visit
Hope Better Days and Old Dog are ok.....sending hugs your way xxx
It's a gorgeous sunny day here btw
Have a good day all xMortgage-free for fourteen years!
