Went to 'soup and a roll' at the Village Hall, where I found out quite a lot, including things I might have preferred not to know!

Still, forewarned is forearmed and all that, and this is what may happen when one spreads wings beyond the usual cosy social circle. :(

Because one informant didn't know me, I was also given great detail about how another village many miles from here, and blessed with a particularly trendy image, has a wonderful, professional Panto. :rotfl: I had to smile, because the charm of ours is surely in its complete reliance on rank amateurs. :p

    Horses for courses. ;)

One snippet I picked-up elsewhere, probably at least partially accurate, is that the news blackout on the recent doubly fatal crash near here is related to the pursuit of that vehicle by the police helicopter. According to local lore, the car contained a large quantity of drugs and must've left the road at around 100mph to travel as far as it did. One of the two occupants was so badly injured he still had no ID a week ago. :(

Well, those are two people who won't be running drugs through the county in future, but of course many people are wondering what would have happened if they'd collided with someone's beloved instead of a telegraph pole and a huge tree. It was a totally insane piece of driving which could only have ended in disaster, and it was just a roll of the dice which placed that end in an uninhabited spot with, apparently, no direct witnesses.

...And we thought this area was almost immune to all that stuff! :o

the tree on the bend near here [fatal accident a month or so ago plus 2 previous !] has been cut down. it was a BIG oak. so we thought "well if anyone doesn't take the corner now, they will end up in a field.... nah ! they've left an 18" high stump [3ft across]??? so anyone careering off and hitting that will either take off and end up in the next village or will flip over ...and over ! I asked the beaulieu estate team their mode of thinking and they seemed surprised and one said "oh, hadn't thought of that" !! locals have advised they grind the stump flat ...........
well im waiting to hear when we can collect sheep... lady is coming to see where they are going first which im pleased about... don't think she will be displeased.;) I took hay to the sheep/hoss's and told our two to get ready for the arrivals...:D

soup and a roll, sounds lovely..

don't know what other info you found out, but re the news of the 2 dead... its always sad to hear news like that, BUT sadly people like that think nothing will ever happen to them... thankfully no innocent person was involved.. the lure and greed that drug running brings... was way too tempting for them..

Alfie. don't worry there are loads of packs of sausages lol..

youngest and his girlfriend, and a group of mats have booked a holiday cottage for 2 nights, so he is taking a load of sausages, burgers and chops for their fry up breakfasts, and a potential bbq lol.. just wondering if anyone of them are going to jib out of eating them, as they have seen them grow up lol

Not a good day for me :(. Visiting my elderly parents and mum went and had a heart attack just before lunch. Now in hospital after a procedure on the blood clots, but at age 91 you can't take anything for granted...

It was just as their lunchtime carer was visiting to she did immediate help while I was on the phone to ambulance who arrived very quickly and administered blood thinning drugs.

I'm now thinking about care for dad, 93, to try and keep him in their home rather than emergency admission to care home. Already had carers visiting 4 time a day which will be upped to 5 from tomorrow and I'll be travelling across too during the holiday weekend.

Easter gardening very much off the agenda...

    Big mistake I'm afraid.

    I did say 'almost!' :p

But surely surely 'big' mistakes are things like moving into the house across the road from Mr Dog..... or not knowing that an estate of 30 houses is due to be approved in the field almost next door. :exclamati

I heard that one today. Friends of ours moved out of the village last year to be 45 miles nearer work. Now, the new owner of their house is wondering why they weren't told about the potential new housing so close by.

I think the answer's a bad solicitor. Most searches only cover the property itself, and maybe the immediate neighbours. Some random field just beyond the neighbour might not figure, although if anyone cares to look at the village development plan, it's one of only two large spaces left inside the development boundary. Not rocket science!

But it's our friends' fault for not saying, apparently. :oThey said to us "Why aren't we being asked?"

And strangely, the person who told me this is... err....selling up! They live next to the field, though that's not the reason, err, naturally. :rotfl:

Yes, you're right locating yourself in the sticks can be fraught with hazards.

I'm sorry to read your news today, IHS, although it was lucky the carer and you were there to get help immediately.

Dad will be glad to stay in his own home, if that's possible, but I know just how hard it is to balance advantage and risk.

Do remember to keep a bit of time for yourself, once you are past the fire-fighting stage. You need your energy and a clear head.

I note you didn't say "shepherd's pie!" :rotfl:

Congrats on the sheepies. They couldn't be going to a comfier home, I'm sure. :D
