    It's so beautiful CTC.
  • thank you LIR..

we are a bit confused though, just above the fire place, there is 2 bits of wood ( the long-ish looking stone) why would they do that?? there s no bolt holes or anything, that maybe a iron hook might have been attacked.

but then again, as Alfie will agree, not much makes sense in the build of the ranch lol

CTC - Wood is there for strength - far stronger than the same depth of stone. Allows movement of the structure/settlement. A thin strip of stone is very fragile. Wood is light weight, easily handled/lifted into position & usually readily available. Used in construction of fireplaces throughout the whole country - traditional. Some have carvings by the joiner. Sometimes they were recycled from other constructions....boats even. Have seen masts used in seaside places.

Free listing on the bay - starts midnight till tuesday!
  • They have ripped everything out at my last garden too. Makes my mother really angry. The great shame is she specifically asked saying we'd love lots of stuff IF they didn't want it and they said no they wanted it, yet within a fortnight they had diggers pulling it out. :(.

Its absolutely their right of course but needlessly greedy.

It happened to our old garden (last-house-but-one now, lol :D) too :(

Our buyers professed to love the garden which we'd spent a small fortune planting up as the previous owners very obviously didn't have a green finger between six of them. They then announced - by way of a text after completion - that he had received a chainsaw as a house-warming gift

When you look on streetview now parts of the garden are totally devoid of plants - some were lovely mature specimen trees planted when the house was rebuilt in the 1930s too - such a shame as we would have taken some of the smaller items we had planted. I did insist to DH that we dig up a few things, such a a peony that had been removed from my grandparents' house before it was sold and which I remember from my childhood :o

They erected *lovely* black and gold railings round the perimeter too :p

    Philistines......grrrr!

Does anyone know anyone with an ESSE ironheart? DH saw one yesterday and trying to decide if its a compromise between range and woodburner or a bit of a pigs ear at both. I'm not a huge fan of ranges but would use it if it were on and any good.

Reviews are mixed. There seem to be some quality issues, suggesting it's built-down to its price of around £4k new.
