The Ebac Powerdri is nice and quiet. However, the one I took delivery of on Friday is faulty. More water misses the water collector than goes in to it.
As for your single wall construction. It should be possible to add a skin of insulation to the outside walls. The costs are a lot though.
Thanks, patman:T, Will check out the Ebac you mentioned. Sorry you got a duff one though:(
We've already checked prices for 'dry lining' the walls but even if we just do the downstairs its going to cost a mint:mad:. It's a big detached house (old and run down so not as grand as that sounds:o) with big rooms and lots of external wall. OH is a total skinflint and doesn't seem to twig that necessary ongoing maintenance and updating is key to avoiding huge remedying expenditure further down the line. He's an 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' type of guy but it has to be totally clapped out and unfit for purpose before he'll admit it needs sorting;).
Oh to have someone handy like you, patman, who seems to be able to diagnose, cure, fix and replace anything and everything0 -
Merry Christmas Emergency fund people

CBC, they do a sort of foam cladding that screws to the outside wall. It then gets rendered over to make it weatherproof.
In some area's, they have grants available as part of a warm home scheme.Never Knowingly Understood.

Thanks, will look into the external cladding:T. We were thinking to have the interior walls done, like friends who had similar problems to us. They've been dry as a bone since having theirs installed and their house seems much warmer. Basically, it sounds like the same type of process you mentioned but done inside. No weatherproof outer rendering needed, just internal plastering. We already have external rendering which is sound/undamaged.
I doubt we'd get a grant for it:mad:. All the initiatives that I've heard of and contacted ( for replacement boiler and loft insulation initiatives to name but 2) say we aren't eligible because no one in the house is on any kind of benefits:(. Will obviously keep asking though.0 -

Hi everyone, no. 123 calling in. I have dropped by the way side somewhat and still only have £500 EF so this year I want to improve the amount, I don't think I will reach £1000 but hope to be on the way nearer.

Dehumidifier turned-out to have a small hole in the bottom of the collector container. Contacted Ebac and they will send out a new one.
nannygladys, £500 is not to be sniffed at. You have enough to cover the failure of any major kitchen appliance, or fix any issues with your boiler (if you have one).
I have only reached £1k once. Since then, it's been up and down.
LMD that's a good idea. That is sort of what I am doing.Never Knowingly Understood.

Going to take a hit on the old emergency fund this month. The car needs a new cam belt and as it's a taxi too the vehicle inspection and licence is due in the next few weeks. Happy days that the emergency fund will cover it but it'll be back to the beginning again

Surely you can off-set the cost against business income?.
Don't forget to get the garage to replace the water pump and tensioners at the same time. Some will just change the belt itself rather than the whole kit of parts.
Reminds me I need to set aside £500 to have the same job done on mine. Will need the dual mass flywheel done later too.Never Knowingly Understood.
