I'm this week realising how important the emergency fund is. I'm off work sick with something that could take days, weeks or months to get better, no one knows. I work as a supply teacher, so if I don't go in, I don't get paid. Made enough this month so that the emergency fund will be jumping up to around £700-£800, but won't be adding it until the last few days of the month when I know exactly where I stand financially. Though, my aim is to be back in work a couple of days next week (it is possible, hopefully) so won't be needing to touch the emergency fund! Hope you feel better soon Mrs Save. I went self employed 3 years ago & it has been tough. I am very lucky not to have had anything serious in that time but had to work through 2 bouts of tonsillitis which is extremely painful & I had a fever both times but when it's your only choice you keep going if you can (no implied criticism to you, if you are ill enough to be home you should be) I should have been I'd never let a member of my team work in that condition but I had no choice."
