What is the average pensioner who doesn't have a clue about technology likely to buy from Maplins anyway?0 -
True enough but I didn't get a newletter of bargain deals from them about their overpriced stuff. To be fair though.....thats not just limited to Maplin's
I know exactly what Maplin are up to with this. Sometime later there will be a 50% off newsletter and their price will still be 50% more than you could pay elsewhere.
You may ask why I take the Maplin newsletter - in fact I'm surprised nobody did but the answer is simple - if they start offering something cutting edge it will be in there and I can check to see if anybody is selling the stuff at a price I'd be perapared to pay, Sadly 3D printers are still above my price range for a toy but their newsletter of a few months back prompted me to check.0 -
A halogen heater if they see it advertised in the window...Money-Saving-King wrote: »What is the average pensioner who doesn't have a clue about technology likely to buy from Maplins anyway?0 -
Quite easily apparently. How can they stay in business when they are such robbing gits?.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
New thread title option 'Maplin not cheapest for the thing I wanted to buy (but neither was John Lewis)'

Seriously though, if you factor the fact that a lot of the cheapest eBay prices are sent directly from the Far East, with no (importers) CE mark/testing, 3 weeks wait, frequent fakes, and incredible international warranty returns costs compared with safe, off-the-shelf, 30-day any reason returns etc, it's a less dramatic comparison. Their prices are clearly what the market will bear considering the convenience and service.0 -

Why would they buy a product they don't know anything about from a shop they're not familiar with?0 -
Last year I bought a pressure washer from Maplins (through Amazon)
It was cheaper and had more attachments than the same model sold directly by Amazon. Does that make Amazon robbing gits?0 -

Probably not, but maybe the fact they have dubious tax avoidance schemes does?Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
Reading this thread I can conclude that Maplin may, or may not, charge more than other companies.
There may, or may not, be margins on prices that to some appear excessive.
No one is forced into the shop and made to buy things so "robbing gits, they are not.0
