Kwik-Fit sell MOT & Service for £99 while Bob down the road will do it for £20. Kwik-Fit are robbing gits!

Sometimes Maplin prices can be reasonable or competitive, but the biggest value they have is that they're *right there*. You can go into the shop, find the item, assess the quality, size, shape, check it's got the right fittings, connections, capacity, colour, and have it back home 20 minutes later.

Better still - they take returns if you change your mind, something breaks, etc., you're not forced to post something away.

My local Spar shop isn't cheaper than Asda, but it's close, it's open, and it sells milk. Are they robbing gits too?

Then why did you choose to buy from there?

There's only one person looking like Mickey Mouse here, and it's not Maplins!
If you took the effort to actually read the thread you'd see I didn't buy from Maplins I'm merely pointing out their outrageous markup.

I bought one from a local shop at a slight markup over eBay prices for the convenience of being able to just take it away. I've even bought the odd item from Maplins for the same reason but only when their price was somewhere near reasonable.

Can you post up Bob's phone number for the benefit of money savers please. The cheapest I've seen just an MOT is £25.

Quite right. The inability to read before posting certainly made tomtom look a complete prat but I was too polite to draw attention to that.

Perhaps "Robbing Gits" is being taken too literally - I'm well aware they can offer stuff for sale at whatever price they choose without breaking any laws. I just think that they really are taking the mickey with what they charge.[/QUOTE]

Perhaps you should have chosen a more accurate description for your thread if you didn't want people taking it too literally. smiley-rolleyes010.gif

Thanks for that wonderful insight. Perhaps you'd like to suggest something more appropriate bearing in mind that this is the vents forum...

You're welcome to my 'wonderful insight'.

I do appreciate that this is the 'vent' board but you can bet your bottom dollar that any thread that has 'scammed', 'ripped-off', 'conned' or 'robbed' is a total exaggeration.

I could suggest all sorts of more appropriate, alternative titles that would accurately reflect the pricing policy of Maplins - but 'Robbing gits...' would not be among them.

I quite like the constant sniping "Robbing Gits" is producing though - it keeps the thread at the top meaning more people can see and, if they wish, check the excessive markup Maplin charge on that particular item. It is by no means the only one either - just about anything not "on offer" can be bought far cheaper elsewhere. They import the same cheap tat that you see on eBay and price it way higher.
