MSE News: Wonga busted by the FCA: 330,000 to have their loan wiped

I don't think Wonga ever actually sold any debts on, at least not small ones. They got into trouble for sending letters from fake collection agencies to scare customers into paying.
This may have changed more recently so check out your own situation. But it's likely that the letters from collection agencies are actually from Wonga and were lying to you.
Wonga DID sell debts on........mine sold to ARC Europe (Gothia....?) I have heard nothing - no email or anything....is anybody else in the same boat? Has anybody with a sold debt received an email from Wonga?
Cheers0 -
I never heard a thing either, 197 days in arrears and still they want 1045 off me on a £1000 loan (salary only £1200) have paid £600 back already. Really thought I would be one of the ones to be wiped0

Check your spam mail. BT\Yahoo spam filters put my email in there. Had to go to the email website, as my phone doesn't sync with the spam folder. Was only able to log into it this morning. Made for a long night, but all written off.0 -

I checked my email settings yesterday and had to click the option to be contacted by email.
What was your credit rating like when you took out the loan? One of the criteria is whether you'd pass the affordability checks which seems to imply credit rating. Perhaps those whose credit rating is fine are not affected?0 -
Yes nothing in my junk emails either. It spiralled from November time when I first started having the problems, in nov I would have a couple late payments on my credit file and by March when they lent me the £1000 I would have had lots of late payments on my credit card, next account & on my car payments. Do you think its worth ringing them? Is the debt still showing on people's accounts or has it now being zero'ed off?0

My brother was not in arrears but was relying on them month to month, he re-paid £250 on monday 6th and was turned down for a loan on fri 10th after receiving the affordability email.
He will get his charges and interest back approx £40 but i think its bad that he paid them in good faith on monday having no idea he could not get another and was not offered the 4 month repayment plan.
If his repayment date had been just a week later he could have made an arrangement, now he is just in a mess.0 -
Maybe they are unable to email you at all?
I've tried logging in but apparently the website has 'blown a gasket'.0 -

I think I seen in one of the emails if people are in financial difficulty, they will aim to repay it within 48 hours. I knows it's only £40 but it will help him massively. I hope he gets back on track soon0 -

I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I've been there before too but chances are if he's living month to month off wonga loans then he's already in a mess.
Unfortunate timing for your brother but it is great news that wonga are making amends. It won't work out for everyone but changes really have been made for the better.
I hope your brother is able to work something out and get back on track xx0
