So what happens with old debts that were "legally assigned" to another party like Gothia? If I am right, Wonga are saying that it has nothing to do with them and people need to contact Gothia direct?
How can something that should never have existed be sold on? Should the DCA now be responsible for re-imbursing customers? Should Wonga buy the debt back and resolve?
I've got to admit, i'm completely confused, but it seems that this could open a right can of worms!

@gtd1973 @MartinSLewis hi there.
The forbearance programme does not include customers whose debt was sold. However...1/20 -

Which goes against what Wonga appear to have told MSE according to their news article..
"Wonga adds that it will be handling cases even if a customer's debt has been sold on to a third party or they've entered into an individual voluntary arrangement or debt management scheme."0 -

I agree, agree, agree and Wonga could have absolutely no defence if they thought selling on could be a way of avoiding the issue (I don't think they did think that BTW.)

Just phoned them and im not affected!
When I asked why she said she couldn't tell and didn't know what criteria had been used and then just read me a scripted response really.
Wonder why they've deemed me not affected when they lend me 80% of my monthly salary.0 -
Worth a shot; I'm going to complain to the financial ombudsman0
-
Hi, I too am not affected which I cannot believe. The debt is now 500 days old and I have been in a DMP for 2 years (12 months with this Wonga loan as I had to default) Obviously I shouldn't have applied for a Wonga loan when already in a DMP but was desperate and Wonga shouldn't have loaned to me.
I
I genuinely believed I would be top of the list to be written off but they have done nothing. I think I should request help from the FOS. I even had to reduce my payment to them in jul this year as the payments were too high what with my wife and I having our first baby.
Are others going to complain?0 -
If you think you should be included then I think you will need to make a complaint to Wonga first rather than going to the Ombudsman as there may be a genuine reason or a simple oversight on their part... If you bypass them then you'll likely slow the process down
Also - DO NOT borrow more when you are on a DMP, you are endangering the agreement and could royally screw yourself overspeak to your DMP provider ASAP if you think you are unable to make a full payment or need to ask for some back (assuming it's not already been distributed).

Any clever / kind person know where I stand...? I was made homeless at the start of the year unexpectedly and had to move into a flat by myself. Hugely struggled financially at the start to get the cost of everything covered so stupidly took out a wonga payday loan to help cover my costs. The following month I took out another loan as repaying wonga had left me short and I'm sure you can guess the rest. A £400 debt spiralled to £2500 amongst various companies (including another loan with wonga)with repayments reaching £500+ a month (More than half my salary).
After months of struggling I finally came clean to my mother who thankfully loaned me the money to pay everything in full. I know I am lucky and I'm so grateful. However I only paid Wonga back last Saturday 4th October, after this ruling on the 2nd. I'd heard nothing about it until now. They have emailed me to tell me I am affected and they will clear my balance in full.
My question is - is what they did wrong? They knew about this ruling when I repaid, why wasn't I told to wait and see what happens? I'm hopeful to get the money back so I can pay my mum back - I've tried already and been told no by one of their scripted phone robots, they said even if I had paid it yesterday I wouldn't be getting a refund. Anyone know where I stand? It would have been different if I paid it three months ago but it's such a kick in the teeth that it was after the hearing and nothing was mentioned!0
