"Caring" reply from Barclays

is this ridiculous? Appalling? Or something else? You be the judge.
Whilst browsing Barclays website I came across a rat's image, which to say the least made me feel very uneasy. In the section "Comments and suggestions" I wrote "I would like to say that it is absolutely inappropriate and irresponsible for a bank to put a rat's image on its website. Have you considered that some people (including me) might have a phobia for them and it makes impossible for us to use your website? I think you should know better than that... Could you please let me know when it is off so I can continue using your website?.."
Reply from Barclays "Please be advised that we are not aware of any site problems, in the first instance we would recommend updating Java and clearing the browser history. Alternatively try on a different internet browser to the one you are currently using. We hope these proposals resolve your query ..."
Makes me think that they send the same generic message to every enquiry without even reading the contents...

A problem is a lack of judgement on a part of Barclays marketing team and questionable working ethics of their staff.
  • Have you got a link to this rat?

Which section is the rat image on ? I can't seem to find it.
  • I do not fancy finding it now, but it was somewhere in the mortgages section

That is the rat?! This has to be a wind up

On a different note my mum is seriously phobic of snakes to such an extent that she can't even say the word. However she wouldn't dream of complaining to a company that used a picture of one or showed one in an advert/program.

No company can think of every kind of phobia before uploading a picture especially when some people can even have a phobia of things like buttons

  • At Powerful Rogue. This is not the same picture, but it just reinforces the lack of judgement on their part and some weird obsession with rats...
