  • Poor cat but it did make me laugh. I don't use envelopes as such but withdraw a set amount each week and left overs go towards either pots for one off bills or a specific saving activity. I find that cash is actually real to me in a way that card spending isn't. I don't have council tax to pay, instead we still have a rates bill. I'm currently hopeful of paying it in full in May gaining a 4% discount and avoiding being taunted by a significant sum departing my bank account monthly. I really resent paying that bill.

Brogden since you're champing at the bit to attack the mortgage, why not put the gas bill reduction towards it.

Hey Brogden, thanks for dropping by at mine. I am so sad at the kitty kicking - am denied cat company as OH is seriously allergic. Thought he was making it up to save on cat food and litter trays (he is a bit of a mess-resister, prefers sterile and boring. Source of stress for me) till I got a girl cat from the rescue and he seriously could not breathe for days. Still, sounds like kitty is a survivor and back out and fighting her corner. Go Brogkitty, Go!

Thanks INOD but there isn't a gas saving at the moment and knowing this place there probably won't be :(. I just thought in monitoring it I could try to control my emotions and err' 'keep on track' :)

I hate / hate / hate the Council Tax. You know why? Same reason as everybody else.........it is paying money for NOTHING :rotfl:.

I am now awaiting a council troll to land on my thread to tell me what good value it is and everything it gives me  !!!

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (sorry, did somebody say something? :))

It is an honour and privilage to have you over at Brogden Towers :)

'Kitty' doesn't really bring up the right picture. She is an enormous brute of 13 years old and if there are any 'zero-tollerance' policies around here they are all hers. She is absolutely adored by the DD's needless to say :)

Ooh Brogden, we're, or maybe just me and Dragon are probably about to fall out. Anyone who pays council tax in my particular part of north of Watford England pays for me. And I work for them and am dead proud of what I do to make their lives as GOOD as I can. Yes, I am singlehandedly leading the SUPPORT YOUR COUNCIL campaign. For context, I have just counted 15 jobs that would be London-based thatvI could do, while doing handstands and laughing, that pay over £100k. I won't go, I don't want to. But I could, and people don't see what their council tax pays for. Because council tax is visible. Bankers` cuts are not. End of. P*****d off and asking the nation to get real
What are we for? Making £££££s or looking out for each other? I know what I think.

Oh well.....it was a nice friendship whilst it lasted :)

I thought you would be impressed that I was thinking of paying next year's council tax up front, allowing the council to make a bit of interest on it :p

I am not being ignorant....I understand the whole thing but just like income tax, NI or VAT it is never ever going to be popular :rotfl:
  • LMAO Short, fat and Welsh here too lol I love the council I adore our school, am proud of our police force adore the firemen and ambulance etc but still hate paying council tax perhaps if they renamed it I wouldn't so much but I have decided instead of physically going into the post office to pay it monthly I am going to direct debit it this year so I can just forget about it and pretend I am not paying it lol ...
