    Hi All :)

I just thought I would update my diary and try to avoid corporate woes for the time being. From the posts I received (particularly your beautiful post NOA) I can see I am not on my own and sooooo many people have their own feelings on corporate life and the ‘cog in the works’ syndrome :(.

    So……on money matters………..

    Envelopes

I went slightly off the rails yesterday. We did the weekly food shop in Morrison’s, spending more than the required £40.00 for the Christmas bonus. Mrs. Brogden was running low so I had to stump up the difference. Having broken the discipline I then sinned a couple more times before repenting, confessing and trying to get back on track :o. The envelopes for the remainder of the pay month will be a bit more depleted than I would like so I am going to have to be additionally disciplined for the next week or so. The method though is marvellous (big ‘ead )

    Morrison’s

The ‘Match & More’ Revolution………yeah……put it there :T.

I have said elsewhere that I do not trust Morrison’s. Well, it’s a corporation isn’t it? OK, let’s take a balanced view. Whilst ‘Match & More’ is conveniently ‘opaque’ and can be secretly manipulated, on a shop of around £47.00 I received 330 points (which equates to 33p.) Last week on a similar sized shop I received 200 points (20p) and the week before 400 points (40p.) If I compare this with Nectar it is much better, particularly when I take account of my diesel where I will (without potentially being exposed to manipulative practices) receive points worth 1p for each litre – this is approaching double the power of Nectar :D.

If I add in the benefit of Morrisons ‘in-store’ butchers and the Christmas ‘Brucie Bonus’ of £25 then Morrison’s are the champions and sorry Sainsbugs but you are fired. My ‘Match & More’ points could be greater still. I could go around with my eyes closed filling the trolley with everything and basically behaving like a moron but NO……..Aldi, Lidl, B&M Bargains, Qualitysave, Iceland you are still in the squad and I will play you where I know you can beat Mozza’s. An instant cash saving is much better than a loyalty card boost – let’s be mature adults ;) !!

    Debts

I should have guessed this would happen. About ten days ago I had an ‘envelope surplus’ so I sent £17.40 over to Motormile Finance who are collecting a defaulted payday debt. I have agreed an F&F of £130 with this lot. I wanted them to accept £100 but the computer said no so I thought I would accept their offer but pay a bit in advance so I don’t get too squeezed when I am paid. Right now that £17.40 would be better sitting in an envelope to help me in what will be a ‘skinny’ week :(. Oh well, nothing lost - I will pay them £112.60 now on payday – that’ll be one less creditor on my signature :).

I am still awaiting hopeful acceptance of an offered £100 full and final on a debt of £145 to the worlds doziest DCA – Opos Limited in Glasgow. They’re nothing like I expect Scots to be – its like pulling teeth and I’ll have to ring them this week if I don’t hear from them. I know the F&F doesn’t sound that exciting but I can’t push them any harder. The original debt was with the despicable Minicredit and it was slashed by about 60% when I threatened them with an FOS complaint .

Hopefully in the next couple of weeks that will be two sundry predators crossed off the list in Brogden’s ‘Bin the Blighters’ campaign :rotfl:.

I am now being sent out to buy Crimbo pressies for one of my DD’s to give the other. She’d do it herself of course but it would take so long to do the hair and make up. Brogden is different…..hose him down with soap and warm water and he’s ready to go! :T

    ‘Onward & Upwards'…………!!!! :):):)

    Brogden.
  • Great post, Brogden. M's is my local supermarket, so I really must sign up for the Match and More card. I'm trying, though, not to do big weekly shops, but buy stuff only as and when we need it. This is taking OH some getting used to, however, as he gets a bit anxious when he thinks the fridge and pantry is looking a bit sparse. Good luck with the envelopes. I'm trying my own system of it and it is helping to keep me on the straight and narrow. Mostly what I try to do, though, is not spend any money!
Good to see a couple of predators being knocked off your list!
Have a lovely day. Hope the suns out where you are, it's glorious here. HB

    Hi HB!

I am so pleased you have posted on my thread again :T

I was hoping you weren't cross with me.....I know you said you weren't but now I'm properly happy :) I had no idea until very recently that you were Queen of the NSD :T everything is possible for the Queen :) !!!

I'm like you because I would buy a bit as I go along but Mrs. Brogden sees a sparse fridge as 'the end is nigh ' It also involves me getting some stick from the DD's who start complaining that they aren't getting value for money

    So......a full fridge it is :) !!

    Good Morning All :)

The weekend goes by so quickly. I can feel it draining away even at the time I am enjoying it. Not doing much but just enjoying not working and doing a few household jobs where I can actually see a result that’s worth working for! The fruits of my labours!

Its getting to the time of the month where I must start completing my spreadsheet with next month’s bills and debt payments. Check the Sky and telephone bills and a few other things which are variable and enter in the figures. This will then calculate my ‘spendable’ income figure – the amount that will be split evenly between the daily envelopes. I know I am a bit off course this month but not seriously so. Maybe this will happen again but I have stepped out of the fog that I was in as recently as September where I didn’t know how much was in my account and too ‘scared’ to look. If this method means that stupidity is a thing of the past then it is all worth it.

My debit card doesn’t know what’s happened…….its not been used for three weeks in a shop or an ATM. I hope it doesn’t give up on me ;)

Oh yes, I need to know about my proposed F&F with dozy old Opos before I can absolutely finalise the expenditure plan. That will be a phone call I guess.

Monday morning…….here we go again…….last week somebody said ‘poor us’ well all I have to say is ‘poor us’ :( I will have to do something that is worthwhile today but I guess that will be after work :D

    Have a good one,

    Brogden :).
