Not sure why MBNA have payment due dates sometimes on a weekend, none of my other credit cards have this.
You need to change your mindset. :)

It's not a payment due date...it's a payment due BY date. After all, you've had around 3 weeks in which to make the payment...to ensure it's received BY Sunday 28th September.

The payment I made today should arrive Mon morning.
It'll be Tuesday, as per your earlier link and the info on their website.
I've got a Balance Transfer with MBNA till end of next year, don't want that affected and don't want to lose balance transfer promotion offer for a further balance transfer, which I intended to use soon, if I can help it.
I suspect you lost that at close of business Friday when it became apparent to them that you couldn't possibly pay BY Sunday 28th September.

Lots of posts from people in your position with MBNA, and then trying to negotiate one or more of the following:

    1. Reinstatement of the promotional rate going forward
    2. Refund of the interest already charged (after losing the promotional rate they'll backdate interest to your last statement date...and likely remove all current 'other' promotional rates available to you).
    3. Removal of any late marker with the CRAs
    4. Refund of the £12 default fee

Best of luck. I think you'll need it.

Not going to be collected in next 24 hours will it?
Phoning them to explain is the best option.

Obviously, but some people need to be told the basics.

  • If you make a payment by FPS to MBNA's bank account it'll be in their account within two hours and it will register in their systems by Monday 10:00 am (minimum payment should be enough).

I don't know how picky MBNA are for just one day late, please let us know how it goes.

I have a DD in place and if the DB date falls on a weekend day the DD is collected from my account the next working day (usually Monday), so a FPS payment might be the same?

Their systems don't process payments on a Sunday anyway, so since the money will be there by Monday you might be OK.

    That's good thinking.

You'd think if their system doesn't process payments on a Sunday, then it can't process it as a late payment on Monday, it can't know the payment was late.

    Yes, confusing ! shrug.gif

It is a bit silly having a due date on weekend if they don't process payments on weekend.

This exact same thing happened to me, my fault.

I rang them first thing Monday and apologised, I appeased them by setting up a DD for the minimum payment in future. They were very pleasant and agreed not to make any charges or record a late payment anywhere. They were true to their word.

One thing of note is that the due date was Sunday. They will know that the payment hadn't arrived by close of play on Friday and that it couldn't have been credited to the account in time. When they choose to process it is immaterial.

Honestly, give them a quick bell first thing tomorrow. For a first (minor) offence they are normally very forgiving. Leaving it to chance is not an option IMHO.

Another one of those much talked about "by" words!

BUT, sorry to say, I used internet banking to send MBNA a payment last Saturday (20th). It went via faster payments. The "transaction" date and "received by us" date are both shown as Tuesday 23rd.

My MBNA payments made Mon-Fri in recent months have always been credited to my MBNA account the same day.

I've looked at MBNA website, Faster Payments is different to Debit Card Payment, it says:
    Faster Payments via telephone/internet banking:

Providing there are no restrictions on your credit card account, Faster Payments made between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, will be completed and available for you to use within 2 hours of us receiving cleared funds from your bank. Outside of these hours, or on a weekend/bank holiday, your payment will be completed and available for you to use by 10am on the next business day.

Payments will be reflected in your 'Available for Cash & Purchases' and 'Outstanding Balance' totals after 9.00pm on the day they are completed.

My MBNA payments often seem to be due at the weekend - when paid they appear on my statement as having been made on (say) the due Sunday - but the DD appears on my bank statement as taking place on the Monday.

But that's them pulling the money - what would happen if I pushed it I don't know
