Missed MBNA card payment due on Sun

I just realised today Saturday, that my MBNA card payment is due tomorrow Sunday, not on Monday as I originally thought.

I made an online bank payment this afternoon, but don't think it will reach MBNA in time by tomorrow (Sun).

Any suggestions on getting payment to MBNA for tomorrow (Sun) ?

Can you make a payment from MBNA online banking, using your debit card?

I've looked at MBNA website online debit card payment, it says:
    Make a debit card payment

Your payment will be completed on the next business day unless your request is received after 5pm, or on a weekend/bank holiday when it will take an extra business day.
Providing there are no restrictions on your credit card account, the value of your payment will be available for you to use from the start of the business day on which your payment is completed.
It will show in your 'Available for Cash & Purchases' and 'Outstanding Balance' totals after 9.00pm on that day.

    Don't think that will work.
  • Hi

I am with MBNA, and as long as you call them Monday morning first thing and tell them there was an issue with the payment but you made it today, they will be fine.

I was told by the woman on the phone when my DD bounced that they give 4 days before they record it as a late payment with the credit referencing agencies. A Saturday payment will hit Weds at the very latest, so you will be fine, especially if you call them and explain on Monday.

Not going to be collected in next 24 hours will it?
Phoning them to explain is the best option.

Not sure why MBNA have payment due dates sometimes on a weekend, none of my other credit cards have this.

The payment I made today should arrive Mon morning.

I've got a Balance Transfer with MBNA till end of next year, don't want that affected and don't want to lose balance transfer promotion offer for a further balance transfer, which I intended to use soon, if I can help it.
  • Make an online payment using your online bank account.

It should go through Faster Payments and reach MBNA instantly (worse case within 2 hours).

The payment details (sort code and account number for MBNA) are available under "Faster Payments via telephone/internet banking" at http://www.mbna.co.uk/understanding-credit/making-payments/ .

That said I don't know whether MBNA will process the payment on a Sunday or whether they'll process it on Monday instead, but regardless of that it'll be much faster than paying with a debit card (or any other method).
  • Is it a first offence? Pretty sure a first time will not be penalised if you are on the phone first thing in the morning on Monday apologising for the mix up.

If you have a promotion you want to keep, I would suggest setting up a DD for the minimum payment. You can overpay as much as you like on top but it protects you from charges etc.

I reply to myself (from the URL above):

"Faster Payments made between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, will be completed and available for you to use within 2 hours of us receiving cleared funds from your bank. Outside of these hours, or on a weekend/bank holiday, your payment will be completed and available for you to use by 10am on the next business day. Payments will be reflected in your 'Available for Cash & Purchases' and 'Outstanding Balance' totals after 9.00pm on the day they are completed."
