I've never been to a swimming pool where reception was in an area where dripping wet swimmers had access to. I don't understand this.

I've never known a company that wouldn't take slip hazards very seriously.

First point - Really? so where would you go if you lost your key?

Second point - I never said they wouldn't take it seriously, just that they didn't have time to put up a sign even if they knew about it, which I doubt it had been brought to their attention yet.
  • Now I've slept on it, I'm going to leave it at speaking to the manager. If it isn't taken seriously I will take it higher up the company.
I think I wanted to try the compensation route, not for money but to cause them as much hassle as possible. It was a revenge thing really, not proud of it but there we go.

If I had seen them give one second of concern it would have made everything so much better. I understand the woman on reception was busy but there were a thousand ways she could have reacted to make the situation better.

If I lost my key I'd speak briefly to a lifeguard in the pool.

I wasn't referring to any other comments you made specifically but in reply I'd say you always have time to deal with a safety hazard.
    It would be prioritised .

I'd also speak to the health and safety executive first. A swimming pool that allows wet bathers to mix with the public is not a well managed one.
There are very stringent rules on safety in and around pools.

If people coming from the pool to reception is a common or expected thing then you may wish to ask how the centre minimises the risk of wet floors and therefore slip hazards. The answer should not be that they mop up after people, there should be something in place to reduce risk.

Like signs saying no bathers beyond this point, or members of staff who turn people back, place wet floor signs immediately and address the hazard.all pools I've been to have a turnstile . It could have been an elderly or disabled person who slipped.

Would they have been treated with blatant disregard?

The child had a cut lip and bruising. If you expect compensation for that you're mad.

I'm not the child's parent, so I wouldn't expect compensation for it. I am a personal injury loss adjuster though and an injury of that nature would be compensated for, if the company was liable.

I am not "mad" for adhering to the law!

What is such a young child going to do with compensation money?

Or do you mean that the parent gets to profit from it?

No, with a child claim the money usually gets held by the Court until they reach 18. In the old days we would sometimes pay it to the parent but this doesn't tend to happen now.
  • Thank you Geri1965 - I find it comforting to know that I would have been right to claim if I wanted to.

  • Holly- there is no turnstile. The pool area is up a small set of steps next to the reception area. On busy days it is not unknown for people to sneak in for a free swim.

There definitely could be improvements to the design. So that no one else slips over.also they can't keep a check on how many people in the pool .
