  • Do you arranging to speak to the manager in person would be better? I would like to show them the photos I took and the clinic took of her injuries. Mainly to make sure they are seen and not passed off to a pa etc.

Unless this is a compo party, the extent of injury is not of importance, just the cause and if anyone is to blame/should be sacked/punished/disciplined etc.
  • Okay. I will phone them tomorrow and arrange to visit Monday and speak to the manager. If they ask I will show them the pictures they are mostly on my phone anyway.
I will definitely be asking why were not offered first aid, or recording in the accident book. I might ask to see the cctv (I imagine they'd check it) to see how long between the swimmer and us exiting.

Now I'm calmer I can see claiming for it is a bit ridiculous. But you go into mummy tiger mode don't you?

    For what ?

For the child's injury. A premises owe a duty of care to people using the premises to ensure their safety as far as is reasonably practical. Therefore if there is a hazard, which they are aware of and failed to do anything about, they have breached that duty.

If this is a local authority run leisure centre, I would raise this with their central customer services centre, as processes will be put in place to hopefully reduce the chance of this happening again. Training of the staff in terms of being customer facing may help too.

The child had a cut lip and bruising. If you expect compensation for that you're mad.

I think maybe the OP wouldn't be angry had the staff shown a little basic care. My dd broke her ankle in a leisure centre car park 6 weeks ago, no ones fault and other than informing the swimming coordinator she would be missing for 6 weeks nothing more was said.
About 3 days after the accident the centre manager rang me to check if she was ok and if staff were around had they helped.

What is such a young child going to do with compensation money?

Or do you mean that the parent gets to profit from it?

someone in the que at the reception desk had obviously just walked out of the swimming pool (still dripping wet and in swimming trunks)
Shou there not have been a wet floor sign at least? Or someone cleaning it up to prevent an accident.
If it had just happened when the staff wouldn’t have had time to put out wet floor signs, if they even have any, which is doubtful as you’d expect most floors to be wet in the vicinity of a swimming pool.
Safety - the water was almost invisible and I was holding her hand as we walked

If you didn’t see the water how was the receptionist (who was dealing with people) supposed to have?

I’m not saying you overreacted, it’s scary when blood is pouring from a child (I remember when my brother’s nose exploded after being hit with a swingball bat years ago), but kids will fall, bleed, break bones and need stitches at some time (I know I did) & sometimes just an accident and nobody else’s fault.

I've never been to a swimming pool where reception was in an area where dripping wet swimmers had access to. I don't understand this.

I've never known a company that wouldn't take slip hazards very seriously.
