Cat Food Questions

Dried food does not CAUSE illness - the cat was likely to get sick anyways - esp if it was overfed. I sometimes give my cats pouches or tinned wet food as a `treat' once a week or so - all wet food is pet equivalent of McDonalds!0

Do you think if I dropped down to a lower cost food like "Go cat" for instance it would affect the health of my cats? Very possibly as it is full of additives/colours etc. Try Burns organic!
I only feed my cats dry food as I feel it is better for them. I would love to hear what other brands other people use. What are the best buys?
Cats that eat only wet food usually end up with dental problems (extractions, dribbling etc). I had cats live up to 21 years on a mixture (mostly dry). You are best to start the transition asap.:A0 -
My mum has just moved her two adult cats on to the Purina One stuff after I gave her the sample i received.
They previously ate wet food only however they both love this food.
Its not as expensive as some of the brands mentioned in this thread however it does seem to contain just about the same ingredients, so worth a try! :beer:0 -

At the end of the day, you are the cat's owner, so it's up to you what you feed it. I'm just offering valid/valuable info that might save a cat's life.
* I did say it was a combination of factors in my cat's case, but this isn't the same for every cat obviously.
You are giving out false information. Dried food does not cause cats to develop diabetes, but feeding ANY food to them to the point that they become over weight very well might do. If your cat has diabetes, then it is due to bad care, NOT the food it was given.0 -
I get stuck with my cat who is ten this month! The vet suggested Hills but she can't really have dry food (Even though it's great for teeth) as she's had Cystitis twice in the past & dried food doesn't cause it but does have a part in her getting it. Since changing her to wet food she's had no more cystitis.
I would like to get her senior (7+) & light (She's abit overweight) food but it seems nobody does the combination & if they do it's like one flavour. Hills do a 7+ in Turkey & a light which isn't 7+ but I think is Chicken, the rest seems to be age 1-6. Can anyone say if 7+ really is better for her, if one flavour is boring as hell (I assume so) & what to do. Right now I got a mixture of flavours including 1-6, 7+ & light.
I'm taking her to the vets on Tuesday for her worming & vaccination booster so could check then too0 -
I sometimes give my cats tuna, but I would advise against giving them tuna in brine (or spring water, which is also brine). It contains a lot of salt, which I don't believe is good for them. I buy tuna in sunflower oil when it's on sale at the supermarket.
I give my cats tuna once a week but they dont like it in oil, they will only eat it in brineThought the oil would have been good for their coats but they have other ideas

o0o I found James W3ellbeloved, they do a senior/light in one, four flavours & I know she likes it. It is dry but has cranberry something & helps with cystitis & will help her teeth issues, think i'll try that!0

Hi
We have 2 cats and we feed them Kirkland Signature, super premium maintainence cat food from Costco, we have tried the tinned food, but my cats eat throughout the day and night and meat always gets left, hence waste of money in the long run.
We used to feed our cats the dried cat food from morrions, I think it is called Mycat, it used to give my cats terrible wind.
We make sure we leave plenty of water from them, also they sometimes eat left over meat from our meals.

PS I went to Pets at Home today and they did have 3 for 2 on Hills science plan. It's not cheap though at £15.00 for a 2kg bag. At 3 for 2 it still cost £30.00 for three bags (6kg)

If you buy large bags you can get 15KG science plan for £51.99 & free delivery. It's what we use and is the cheapest I could find. If anyone can find cheaper please let me know! :j
Plus Zooplus always has 10% off codes (if you search around the internet) so we usually only spend around £47, and it lasts our two moggies almost a year (it has a freshness seal so it reimains fresh too).
I find science plan lasts longer - I don't know whether any of you have noticed but the recommended daily measurement of Science Plan is half of that of Go-Cat - so the same amount will last twice as long and it's more healthy too. :T
