What your Upvc windows and doors actually cost

Just to confirm that I've just received the quote for the windows and fitting - it's £5200 inclusive of VAT - nearer £6000 when I include the wooden architrave that I want instead of the plastic one they supply. I'm in London
£1500 per window is too expensive for me, so I'll be leaving it for now unless they bring their quote down. I could get some other quotes, but as they'll be the same windows, it's likely to be a similar ballpark figure I guess.

Hi Purple, it may help you to have a look at other sash windows than heritage rose. At that price they really seem to be applying a huge premium for them being accepted in conservation areas, try your local trade counters they more than likely have samples on display and will recommend experienced window fitters that have examples of previous sash windows installations.0 -
Hi
A so called handyman damaged my 3 bathroom window and has disappeared from the face of the earth!
How do I measure these? should I include the frame which is actually in the wall?
thanks
Hi Mera is it a bay window? If so I measure from the wall to the centre of the bay pole (when ordering confirm you have measured to the centre of the pole) then if there is no way of working out how deep the frame goes into the wall I just add 10mm because if thats to much you can lose up to 10mm by planing the grooves for add ons.0 -

My experience of MB Frames is the prouct is acceptable, but not brilliant. It does not tick all the boxes. I have not put an enquiry into MB Frames over the last 2-3 years as a result of their extortionate prices, anti-competitive practices, and price rigging.
To an extent this has lost them orders for I have been advising prospective customers to go elsewhere - which they have done.
It appears MB Frames are happy to chug along like this, and it is not my role to change their business model. I may have been unlucky with my dealings with MB Frames - but they were given an opportunity to make amends and they failed to do so.0 -

Hi Furts, i'm sorry to here that (only slightly). if you'd like a comparison price on anything they've supplied i'd be more than happy to oblige.0 -

Thanks for this. Whilst on the topic of Bristol another company to be dealt with with great caution, (or for the vast majority of people avoided), is Dunraven. Dunraven have targetted Bristol as they spread East from Wales, perhaps the people there know all about them, and have wised up!
A colleague has recently had Dunraven renew his windows - a truely dreadful experience. But he is reasonably happy, or resigned to his lot, because he expects the industry to be incapable of offering better standards than Anglia or Everest.
Equally, Dunraven are a shrewd company who know they can get away with supplying a poor product, and poor fitting. They have modelled their company on Anglia and Everest -they want the rip off profits and standards that go with this territory.0 -

How can a single company be price rigging or being anti-competitive? surely they just set their own prices - that's not rigging, that's how a free market works? and that doesn't make it anti-competitive.
from what RWP says they appear to price higher than others as they (and their customers) believe their service is worth the extra.0 -

I am sorry to say that many people, your good self included (judging by your post) do not understand how the market works. In theory your reply is correct regarding the free market. In reality the product suppliers to the construction industry are notorious for not following true free market theories.
I am not going into details. But suffice to say I have no doubts that OP is clued up on this topic.0 -

I think i'm capable of understanding quite a lot of issues in pricing strategies. If you're going to put out a claim, you should be able to back it up.
There's dozen of manufacturers and installers in the south west, again, how can one company be price rigging?0 -
Hi,would you send your company details please, i need 13 units inc 2 doors
Thanks0 -
I'm sure the OP has a point about the lower, commoditised end of the market, but I'm also sure he/she would agree that they are not the same products as the likes of Internorm et al make, so price comparisons are only a factor.
Or does the OP think they are all the same? I'm interested.0
