That's £2k on labour, give or take, and is a reasonable price in my area.

What were you expecting to pay may I ask? £50 a day? £100 a day?

Businesses don't run on love and biccies I'm afraid (Although it helps smooth things along ;) )

    Russ

Russ, the price isn't the issue but as the OP has questioned in his next post, why on earth would it take 3 weeks to refit a small terraced bathroom??

I'd suggest it can't be more than 1 week for a proper plumber, what do you think??
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I understand but however 3 weeks seems a bit much , and that wasn"t set in stone it could have taken longer than that. I didn"t want to pay a daliy rate I wanted the job done quote which I don"t think is unreasonable... It"s only a terraced house not huge by any stretch of the imagination.

Don"t want particularly cheap but moderate cost that will last

You are bang on chap, it's a rip off I'm afraid.

A daily rate is fine, but the OP wants a day of work for it?

There are far too many variables to answer that Bri, if a few have looked and then effectively turned their backs on it then it seem to me that there is more to this than meets the eye (or posting ;) ). Is it going back to bare brick? Is a rewire needed? Plumbing alterations? Damp to contend with? CH modifications to make?
Just because it's 'small' doesn't make it much quicker, in fact it can often hinder.

I'm sure the OP will find a magnificent company/trader who will do a magnificent job and all for under a ton and in three days flat :D

I respect your views but you really are taking the !!!! from me and the OP, he's not asking to pay £3.33 per hour, he doesn't want a magnificent trader. However he wants a fair trader at a price for the area and 1 that will do it in a reasonable time, is that too much to ask?

Given your worst possible scenario it needs a plaster and a sparky for 1 day each, add £240 to the 1 week bill

Most our installs take 2 weeks 1 man plus labourer and its non stop. We have had wetrooms recently that have taken 3 weeks . This is a full rip out back to joists and brick then start afresh

For a 8 x 6 bathroom?, (at a guess). I went into the wrong trade, as an engineer I could have done any similar job, (and have done) on my own, in the week.

Look, I realise this seems antagonistic, but fitting out a simple bathroom does not take that long if you know the job.

You've ripped out an old bathroom suite and tiles, replastered, tiled anew and/or painted, and fitted a suite, all in a week?

My brother's a plumber and tiler (works alone, apart from getting plasterers and sparkies in), and his timescales are similar to those quoted by andyhop.

OP - I agree entirely that you should get a job quote. Never agree to a day rate. With the people you've had round to quote, have you asked them to supply the suite or are you sourcing that yourself?

Our bathroom was done in a week for about 5k. Ceiling had to be taken down to sort wiring, fully tiled, suite fitted and wet area for shower. Various things were repositioned as well.

And we had specified every item down to humidistat fan and taps

Well you won't get that in my area!

Andyhop says most of the installs take 2 weeks for two men - that's 20 man days.... I'm of the same opinion.

If you think we're both taking the !!!! (as you say) then that's just fine and dandy with us, but of no help to the OP or the purpose of this thread.

    Wind yer neck in

    Floor out in full

    All plaster of walls

    New 25mm marine ply floor

12mm plasterboard dot and dabbed to walls

All plumbing and electrical services new from point of entry in room

    Walls tanked

Ceiling reboarded ,plastered and 4 coat paint

Perfect tiling, use a 6ft level in any direction to show tiles flat and lip free

If you can do that in 5 I will happily pay you £400 a shift

If you want a dafty DIY spec with minimal prep and a job that lasts 3-5 yrs we could do that in a 1/3rd of the time
