Someone trying to access my BOS online account?

So I tried to login to my Bank of Scotland bank account online about a week ago and got a warning that I needed to change my password/memorable information. No explanation, but it wouldn't let me login without changing them so I did. Today, I come home to a letter from BOS basically telling me to change my online password/memorable information due to multiple incorrect attempts on the account. I assumed this was just a delay on last week but have just went to login with the new details and been forced to change my password/memorable information again!
This worries me now as I definitely haven't had any incorrect logins so this must mean someone else is trying to access my account? If so, should I now be asking BOS to change my username as well?

Are you sure it is the offical BOS (or Halifax) login you are trying to use? What is the URL of the page that asks you to change your password?
You might have some malware on your PC? Run Malwarebytes https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/

Definitely the BOS website as im typing it in myself. Very rarely login to it on my PC, most likely on my iPad.0 -
Could a cat or a kid be responsible?
Obviously definitely change your login details, but could it just be someone confusing their login id with yours?0 -
Both of my current accounts have a user ID which is a number string, one includes my date of birth - as per Armorica, could be someone with the same date of birth just forgetting/mistyping the extra digits?0

There was a long theread on here umpteen years ago about someone being continually being re-locked out of their Alliance & Leicester internet banking.
The general conclusion was there there too someone else was endlessly putting in the wrong ID and triggering a block when they entered their right password etc combination to what was someone else's ID.0 -
Hmmm....while the above all makes sense, I've been with BOS for so long that I actually have a proper username, like the kind you have on here, rather than the digits username (my boyfriend has this and I much prefer a proper username!). The only thing that makes me doubt it is my username has my first name in it, which is not a common name at all. I'll give BOS a call and see what they say.
Oh and definitely no kids/cats0 -
Further thought -have you tried to log in on a public computer or at a wifi hotspot previously??
Both my user names show "in the clear" on the screen when entered -whilst passwords/ identifying numbers are shown as * when typed in. It's possible that the user name could be retained in browser cache as it were.0 -
You should be able to change your username online once your logged in but it won't hurt to speak to them, even if it's only for peace of mind
