Hi all, miss tru is upset, remember I told you about her friend who died? Well the school are having a minutes silence for Martyn at 11am today, the first we knew about it was a couple of minutes ago when a letter came through the post from the school. She's upstairs frantically getting ready but there's no way we're going to make it  The school has broken up for summer but they're keeping reception open to sign a book of condolence so we'll do that.

My thanks button does that too - started a few weeks ago, and i have no idea why, or how to stop it!!!
Hester = forgot to say earlier, how lovely of your DD.0 -
It is raining A LOT here....again  That's put an end to DS1's friend's BBQ this evening -good
I won't have to make food for it, or take him, or stay off the wine in order to fetch him, or make small talk with a bunch of people I don't know, or argue with the other kids who have also been invited about why they aren't going -what a miserable old cowbag mother I am
It's the last day of term, I just want to shut the door and forget school and all that goes with it for a while. I've borrowed Night At The Museum from the library and we're going to have 'Movie Night'. I'll make a poster announcing the time of the main feature and the menu -sloppy joes on buns and lots of popcorn (sweet). I'll spread a tablecloth on the living room floor and they can eat in front of the telly.
I feel the urge to make some hobnobs coming on. I'm not sure I can resist it.....0 -

Can you let me know how the seminar went, we are starting to get serious about moving to New Zealand, before it was just something to talk about. We plan to go there on holiday in 2009 and hopefully will be really going for it after then. Its my incentive for paying off my debts.
Sure! We're saving up at the moment to vist/holiday there next year. Spooky as I was just thinking about you yesterday - I got old photos out of the loft and was looking at my disney/universal pics and remembered yr pic of L.McQueen and Mater!:D when I last went it was T.M.Ninja Turtles! with DS1 - its funny showing my DS2, as he is now into turtles and couldnt believe that mum had met Michaelangelo! :rotfl: I cant wait to go back with my two young kids and do it all over again like I did with DS1 (who is now 23!)
Gosh the heavens have opened up here - if it carrys on I will be able to float along to Churchmouse's without having to use the Woolwich Ferry!:rotfl:0 -
Morning all! Bit late coming on today - it has been hectic round here.
TRU - I don't know what to say; my DS2 has lost three friends in four years, all lovely lads that I miss almost as much as he does- two to accidents and one to illness, and there's nothing you can do or say, really, is there? They find real comfort in their friends - it's a form of counselling, I think. All I can say for sure is that the parents of all the lads who passed away are so grateful that their son's friends still keep in touch with them. DS2 and his friends always make a point of popping round to see them and, for each of them, they have raised money to have a bench with a plaque placed in the local playing field where they all gathered socially. Reading about Martyn reminded me of the ones we have lost here - he must have been a lovely young man.
HARDUPHESTER - what a wonderful daughter which means you must be a wonderful mum!
I haven't had much free time this morning and have only skimmed the thread plus my 'thanks' button is playing up as well - I have tried to thank everyone!
Hello to CABBAGEBOY!
I had my first proper workout at Curves yesterday and enjoyed every minute of it! I think the set-up there is perfect; I'm going again this afternoon, then I can come back for a nap and then we've been invited to our neighbours for a curry and wine night! So no cooking for me today! The only problem is that, with these particular neighbours, we won't get home until the wee small hours and will be feeling very fragile tomorrow. Still, we only have to walk across the road so - no driving!
Anyway, I have cleaned the house from top to bottom this morning; DH had some time off so he washed the kitchen floor for me which was great because he has much more elbow grease than me. It has poured with rain all morning but the sun has come out now - after I'd TD the sheets!
(((hugs))) to all teachers who are having to say goodbye to their classes. My DIL1 is a teacher (Geography) and I know how hard it is for her when she has had a good class - this year she said they've been brilliant. DS2's GF becomes a teacher (Chemistry) in September so we'll have to go through it twice, now!
Anyway, must go now - I want some lunch and then get ready for Curves! Hope you all have a brilliant day.

Hello everyone :hello:
I could not believe the rain we got here this morning - dark, wet, thunder and lightning... I'm supposed to go out on one of my surveys later but I don't look forward to going out in all that rain, so I'm trying to re-schedule it. If I can't... well, I'll get soaked.
Anyway, I have some food shopping planned for later on but will stick to my list very strictly - no unhealthy/expensive treats.
The weekend will be busy for me, lots of work to do tomorrow, and on Sunday I want to give my flat a top to bottom cleanup. Oh and my fridge needs defrosting..:o
One more thing: I seem to have developed a taste for pure cocoa powderI just eat it by the spoonful!
Have a good day everyone!Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Yay Friday :j:j It seems to have been a long week!
Not much to report, shoved a couple of loads in the WM this morning, cut OH's hair (No. 1 all over) and swept the living room floor.
Tonight we're in Leeds for the rugby & going for a curry afterwards in order to time our return home with going past Tesco just after midnight to pick up 2 copies of the new HP book. I've deliberately got nothing planned for the whole weekend, so hopefully I'll have plenty of time for reading. The ironing will have to wait.......
VickyA - Enjoy the seminar. Yesterday I finally managed to get all the paperwork together for my Australian Institute of Management Skills Assessment. I need them to say I'm worthy of 60 points and we can begin the whole visa application process..............fingers crossed
Hester - What a lovely DD, enjoy the rest.
Scuzz - if you're bank is anything like mine, "making the most of your accounts" will mean them trying to sell you loans & credit cards. I rang the bank yesterday to find out about an international bankers draft (to pay for aforementioned Oz skills assessment), and she tried to get me to sign up for a new credit card! '
Lots of you seem to have "last day at school" kids, so I hope they all enjoy it. I can still remember my last day at primary school in..... ahem..... July 1985.
have a lovely weekend0 -
Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven't had much chance to post this week....keeping a seven year with only one useful arm entertained and out of danger in the summer holidays is hard work! The poor little mite can't run, ride his bike, play football, swim etc, so I've spent half the week building lego helicopters and reading stories.
We finally managed to get him an appointment with the GP yesterday and he's been referred to the fracture clinic on Monday...very different from the fantastic treatment in France where he was taken by ambulance to the hospital an hour away and was in the operating theatre less than three hours after his fall.
I am really hoping that he will not have to have a second operation. The French doctors said that the rods they put into his bones will be there for life but our GP said that different surgeons have different ideas on whether or not to remove them and that the orthopaedic surgeon will tell us on Monday what he thinks. At least that gives me time to do a bit of research in the meantime.
Other than that I've got most of the holiday washing done and I'm just giving the house a lick and a promise each morning....there doesn't seem to be much point in killing myself to keep it tidy while the children are on holiday. If I try to then I get annoyed with them for messing it up and end up making their lives a misery. The housework will still be there when they go back to school in September.
Well that's all my news....don't I lead an exciting life!I hope you're all well, hugs to anyone who's not and special hugs for Jackie O.
Take care,
Pink0
