I've got one that was very cheap but cost me £49 to make a call out.

Could you tell us who the company was so that others can avoid them?

It's called rescuemycar.com. Only £19 up front though. £40 call out excess and rang an expensive number to make a claim.

I wouldn't necessarily not use them again though. The service itself was fine.

I used them for a few years. I can normally fix most problems myself but it was nice knowing that I could get some help even if I had to pay a little for it. I never called them out. Why should everyone have to pay for people who can't change a wheel? The instructions are in the handbook.

Not everyone has the strength to change a wheel (especially where a garage has tightened them up with an air gun instead of using a torque wrench) and nobody should attempt to do so when on a motorway as it's too dangerous.

Many vehicles don't have a spare wheel at all (madness).

You can rebuild an engine with a Haynes manual so why pay for someone with a major fault?

    *WARNING*

If you're going to switch, make sure your new cover starts the day BEFORE your old cover ends.

I got caught out when switching from Green Flag to AA. I started my new policy on the same day my old one ended. Went out next morning and car wouldn't start. AA refused to come out as I was not covered for the first 24 hours of the policy and as I had reported it within 24 hours would not be covered at all?? Apparently, it's in the "small print". I had not been having any problems with my car, basically I had 364 days of the year to have a problem (which turned out to be only a flat battery) and my car chose the one day I was not covered to break down. Typical!

Isnt that only applicable if you took the cover out at the last minute?

Take cover out today to start in a couple of weeks and it should be valid from the start date.

Not for me it wasn't unfortunately. I had taken my cover out weeks before and received all the paperwork from AA.

Maybe it only applies to "Home Cover"?

That's an interesting different option to be aware of. How expensive was the phone call?
