Breakdown cover - AA/RAC

So this is due and I am 25 year member of AA - home recovery/breakdown/relay service = £214
Get the run around but if I cancelled and went with RAC all the same = £125
Who switches each year between AA and RAC?
(Being 25 year member gives very little tbh)
What arguments are there to stay?

the days when membership actually meant anything are long gone. My father was sent an atlas on his 50th anniversary. The same atlas that they sell for £3.99, no mention of complimentary membership for his remaining years of life or even one year free
I switch between AA, RAC and others every year and each time I delight in explaining the reason why I am cancelling the "continuous" payment mandate is because a new customer always gets a lower price that a renewing "member" even after the salesperson has offered me incentives to stay. the nearest the AA has ever come to matching the RAC's new customer price was +£10 extra - you can imagine my response....0 -
Get the same thing every year and they always (so far) agree to match RAC price if I say I want to cancel.0

I used to switch between the AA & RAC and between my wife or I being the full member/associate member.
When it hit £150 a year plus another £100+ for the annual European cover I decided I had been ripped off enough.
I now have even more comprehensive cover from Germany - £86 a year.
All these UK companies are just making fools of us.0 -
I swap between the big 3 every year purely as there is no incentive to auto renew. I take out "new" membership every year as a new customer because the saving is quite significant. AA this year wanted £122 to auto renew for a further year, Greenflag as a new customer wanted £60 (same cover), next year come auto renew time I will probably be forced to go back to AA or RAC........no brainer really but yes loyalty counts for nothing.0

With Auto-Aid at £39.90, why use either? No free lunch, and no free laptop

£125 sounds a lot when you consider you can get a Nationwide FlexPlus Account for £10 per month (£120yr) which includes full European Breakdown & Recovery Cover; and you also get Worldwide Travel Insurance, Mobile Phone Insurance + other things included....0

............most of which have so many exclusions as to make them useless !
If you want breakdown cover go to AutoAid.0 -
In my experience i've found that there's little need to actually switch away between AA and RAC every year.
Every year my AA renewal comes through at at least 75% more than the price either the AA or RAC charges for new customers (they're usually within a few £ of each other).
I just phone them and tell them straight up that they'll be reducing my renewal cost to [insert lower figure between new AA and RAC member here] thanks very much or i'll be cancelling, and it's always done on the spot without argument. I guess the callcentre staff at AA are just as fed up with their existing customer price gouging as us punters are.0 -
