Breakdown cover - AA/RAC
Comments
-
Went through the same rigamarole in May - AA member since the 1970's, excessive renewal, would not reduce by much, wanted £60 more than last year. Tried my insurers - Saga - and got required cover (home, roadside, relay) for £10 more than last year. Guess what - the actual breakdown service is the AA, it's just that I call a Saga breakdown number instead of the AA number, and have a paper wallet card instead of plastic!0

Thanks for replies - tried again with AA but best cld do was axe the relay from home start and road = £114 - not impressed. (Last year did get them to match the starter price)
So now will ring RAC to see if as car insured with them any discount and will renew with them. Post Office insurance which I did not take up actually offered RAC for something like £90 ish with comp ins - will look for that deal next year as insurance and breakdown is near enough same date.
TBH I am fed up with the 'attract the newbie, do not even consider the oldie/loyal as they are the cash cow'). To add insult to injury when I did talk to 'going to cancel' they gave me a whole load of 'well it costs more than on website' to make me 'the returning customer lol' feel guilty.
(Wonders if cartel - RAC and AA actually realise that ppl are flipflopping and have 'agreed' that will not match starter price.
Wonders if AA will look at Tesco and see any lessons......0 -
ADAC. Cheap and good, and it'll be the AA coming to see you in the UK anyway.0

I can't believe these figures. They want more for breakdown cover than I pay for full car insurance. Car insurance MAY have to pay out millions. What can be the cost of the biggest breakdown? Why do people only go with AA/RAC? There are loads of cheaper providers - check reviews though before using them. I am with ADAC for full european cover. Are they still taking new memberships from UK? I heard not but couldn't see how they could do that under european law.0

The ADAC are happy to accept members from anywhere in the world.
You just need to phone them to join as their web-site can only accept bank details and Direct Debits on German banks from German addresses.
If you put in a UK postcode the website doesn't know what to do with it.
Most countries postcodes have have all numeric codes with no letters.
No problem in phoning as their reps all speak English.0 -
I use the RAC and haggle the price down every year. I use them because none of the cheaper companies offer a service like the RAC's Arrival..Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Thanks for the tip. I was about to renew with Autoaid but have gone with Start Rescue instead. It's £4.45 cheaper and doesn't require me to pay at the time of a call out and claim back later. Hopefully I'll get an extra £5.58 cashback as well, making it about £10 cheaper.
