Wishing everyone good luck on their smoke-free journey.

I quit smoking during April this year, and both my health and finances have definitely improved.

    Best wishes.
  • I quit over four years ago using Champix and Sue-UU's thread here, which I found incredibly helpful and supportive.
I rarely think of cigarettes, I think it's really weird to think of myself as a smoker now - and I loved them.

I wish everyone the very best of luck with stopping. You CAN do it and it's SO worth it!
I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

Hi I gave up a few years ago and found that having a mentor who was an ex helped plus finding the product that worked for me.
Also I made sure I saved my cig money and treated myself, it was lovely to see all the good things I had because I gave up the cigs.
Good luck to everyone who is going to quit, and just remember it's not willpower you need

  • Count me in please.

Had a stressful few years with failing businesses, debt and bankruptcy but now in a much better place mentally so this is the year to try to kick this habit after 27 years.

I stopped about three years ago having smoked for about 30 years. I did it with Alan Carr seminars which *are* expensive but I used Tesco vouchers! OH & I saved vouchers for a good long while then blew them all on the seminars for us both. He quit first seminar, I took all three to get there but haven't looked back.
Really really good luck to all of you who are going to give it a go, by whatever method you choose. I am proof that its possible to be a really commmited heavy smoker, with lots and lots of failed attempts to stop behin them, and actually do it, and more importantly to not miss them or crave them at all!

Well done for stopping Kiwisaver :) That's great to hear the forum helped you as well, we're hoping it'll do the same for everyone signing up to stop this year!

Those are some great tips on fighting the addiction - I've heard that air-popped popcorn is a great way to replace cigarettes and occupy your hands. And no oil is used, so it's incredibly low in fat.

Anyone else have any good tips or distractions?

I gave up about 2.5 years ago and used to either eat carrot sticks or if I didn't want to eat I knitted a row or two of 40 stitches (I'm not a knitter by the way and I wasn't even knitting anything - it was just something to do with my hands for a few minutes until the craving passed).
