Just wanted to offer support to you all on the first day you have escaped the clutches of nicotine.

I smoked for over 20 years with OH, over 40 a day each. Ashamed to say that we badly struggled with money in the first few years after starting a family. It's only now that I realise we smoked our way through our wages, things could have been so different had we realised.

Stopped 2.5 years ago, according to silkquit, I (just me, not both of us) have saved over £10K. Thats using a very out of date base price of £5 packet. Thank you Alan Carr, his book did it for me and Sue UU who ran the quitting thread on here.

It does get easier as the days pass but you need to stay strong.

  • Thank you money maker, I downloaded that book to my kindle last night but as the kiddies played up I haven't got much of a chance to read it, hopefully I will tonight.

10k is an amazing amount to save! Well done :) my £6.21 sounds measly against that but every bit helps these days. At the moment I'm just pleased I've made it past lunch time!

Hope everyone's coping today. I am just about. Not looking forward to this evening as I think i'm going to find it hard once the little one is in bed. :S
  • Sounds like you're all doing really well :) I like the idea of signing up to courses, Flutterby83, that's a great way to break your routine so you don't even have a chance to think about smoking.

Remember to keep your sigs updated, as of today you'll have all saved something! :)

Oh it does, thanks - I'll stay up! Off to see Stephen Fry at our local theatre soon so should take up a few hours in a place where I'm used to not smoking! Cheers!

Looks like everyone is doing well. I've done my first 24hrs. Wasn't easy. I kept getting a little voice in my head telling me 'time for a fag now?' If I'm not thinking about smoking I'm thinking about food. I hope it gets easier.

Plus I've got a headache. Not sure if it's related or it's because I've been applying for a few part time jobs this afternoon on the lap top. God knows how I didn't loose my temper with the slow internet.

If anyone feels they are struggling you can PM me.

  • It sounds like everyone has had a good first day :)

I have to admit I've been using my ecig more than I thought and there have been a few occasions when I have come close to smoking but it's made me realise it's out of habit rather than anything else, I haven't been mardy or moody like I thought I would be and I'm guessing keeping busy has helped with that. I'm struggling a bit now as the evening is when I smoke most (mainly to unwind after the kids have gone to bed)

I'm going to update my signature in a morning rather than evening as firstly, my 'days' (24 hours) fall overnight and secondly to give me something to do when I'm craving the first one of the day.

Hope everyone has had a good day :) x
