Hi there again
At my kids' school they recently held a sponsored bounce on a bouncy castle - cost £50; raised nearly £1,600!!!! And it's not too high!
hey i would bounce away for nowt:D i love me bouncy castles i'm so embarrass my kids at parties!:D

I have just noticed that someone has suggested a charity Ball!
For last 4 years I have helped orgnise a Charity Ball and this year we raised £10,000 for Marie Curie. OK yes it is hard work but when you see all that money coming it that smile on your face is worth the hard work!
Everyone has fun and lots of money is raised! My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being, hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.-Erma Bombeck-~ Member of the MSE Celebdaq Minileague ~0 -

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, it has given me a chance to think about so many possibilities and decide what is the best way I can contribute. The hospital already has a very good fundraisung team / volunteer group and I think balls, auctions and other events involving co-ordinating / organising more than myself are best left to them.
I have decided to walk the West highland way and finish it off with a stroll up Ben Nevis !!!!!!!!!1
I am planning this for Aug / Sept 2008. I have spoken to the fundraising friends of the hospital and they are going to see if they can get another couple of people to join me.
I will report back with any futher updates as I get them.
Am I likely to be able to blag some accomodation at the various stopping points on route, or do so many people do it for charity the guesthouses/ hotels on the way do not give reduced or free board to anyone?
I better start trainning with my rucksack on to carry the tent in if not !!!
Thanks again everyone who has contributed to this thread, it's great off you to care enough to share your thouhts, advice and experence with meWater is a basic necessity - not for profit0 -
It might be worth speaking to this chap - Alan Sloman, who did a Lands End to John O Groats. he met a lot of people on the way, and has raised a fantastic amount.
But from your point of view, he'll know about accomodation and so on, and tips.

GOOD LUCK!!! I hope it all goes well and you raise loads of money.
Just a wee word of advice get good walking boots and BREAK THEM IN long before you go!!
Someone silly (ME!) got brand new boots a week before the west highland way walk and feet have never recovered.
We didnt manage to blag any free accomodation but the west highland way website will give you a list of b&b and hotels in price order.
Plan and book well in advance as it is a very popular route with walkers as well as those doing it to raise funds and the cheap accomodation sells out quickly.
Also take a good insect repellent as the midgies aren't fussy who they bite and will have a nibble even if you are raising money for a good cause !
Most of all enjoy it .It is a lovely walk .
Good Luck xxxxxxxxx:AIt matters not how long a stars shines ,what is remembered is the brightness of it's light.
