Sorry for posting this here I know it shouldn't be but I would like the input of some of the best brains / lateral thinkers on here :A

My local hsopital is trying to raise money to extend it's special care baby unit. My daughter was cared for in this unit nearly 4 years ago (it's her 4th birthday on 27th July) they saved her life and I am eternally grateful to them for that.
I would love to raise funds for them in order to show them my apprecation and to benefit the babys and families that need this unit in the future, the only problem is how to raise a large amount in one go. I have some good contacts and am sure I could get some substantsual sponsers but what should I do?
London marathon is a bit big (people not distance) for me and I would be looking at doing it in 2009 if I went this route. I would love to walk the Cornish coast but somehow this stinks of holiday not worthy of sponsring, 3 peaks seem to be done by everyone. I can swim but not enough atm for the Thames let alone the channel. I am prepared to train and do a difficult challenge and can set aside 2 weeks to complete it in.

If any of you clever people have any suggestions of a task I could undertake that would be worthy of sponsership I would love to hear it.

As I said previously I do have a few good contacts and friends of friends that I would have no qualms about calling on for this deserving cause, however I can only really do this once so I want to make it count and raise as much as possible.
Sorry again for posting here and I know I will probably get moved however I really did want some competitions people to look at this as they often approach things from a different angle and I cannot think of any fresh sponsership ideas
Thankyou for your time

Thanks for your suggestion KIT34  I am absolutly terrified of flying and though I can see that would be a great sponsering idea I would need medical assistance myself.
Anymore suggestions that don't involve being in the air ( that includes bunges, parachutes etc)
Do you think the people that run the London eye would let me climb up and down it I think i could manage that as I would still be conected sort of to the earth (with safety rope)

If it has to be a physical activity I would climb Ben Nevis. I found the following statement on a website.

For Walkers

The highest mountain, a munro to tick off a list... and, if the weather decides to be on your side a spectacular day out.
If you're a competent hillwalker, please don't just waddle up the aptly named tourist route! Take a trip to the summit via Carn mor Dearg and the CMD Arete. This is the exciting way to the top if you're walking...

I just saw your second post, there are climbing routes as well.

For Climbers

If the weather isn't awful (check before you go) then it's a warm (or cold) welcome to heaven! The cliffs of Ben Nevis are a massive 600m high in places and have every type of climbing you could wish for.

Rock

    • Easy Scrambles and Exposed Ridges
    • Alipine-like face climbs
    • Short but brutal 3 pitchers
    • Chimneys, Cracks, Flakes...

Ice

    • Alipine-like ridge climbs (4 classics)
    • Alpine-like face climbs
    • Icefalls
    • Easy Gullies
    • Hard Gullies
    • Other Classics

Thanks ianh11 I will look into that one, it sounds possible, it doesn't have to be physical though i do do alot of walking, cycling and some swimming. I am reasonably fit but a little over weight and I smoke so i will have to get into shape.

  • What about walking the West Highland Way? I don't really know much about it but I'm sure the information would be easy enough to find.:confused:

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :T :A

I know it sounds a bit cheeky, but what about sponsored slim if (like most of us, me included!) you have a few pounds to lose - sure your family and friends would be really supportive!

The West Highland Way is a beautiful walk approx 92 miles in total. I use to live in the Highlands on the West Highland Way and we often used to do sponsored walks to raise money for the local Youth Club. I would thoroughly recommend it.

thanks for your suggestions I kind of feel it needs to be quite challenging in a way then people will sponsor me more? I would love to walk the West highland way and will look into it, it sounds lovely. Thanks Dunners (do you know me ! Ha Ha) I am sure friends and family would sponser me for that but not some of the celebrities i have lose links to, however i could try a two pronged attack by getting sponsered by f & f to lose weight, give up smoking which I can do whilst trainning for the big one (whatever that might be) to be sponsered by those with more to give.

ianh11 I have looked at Ben Nevis and it would be possible, though it is one of the 3 peaks and I feel to get max sponsorship I would have to do all three. I have found a little bit about cycling or running from peak to peak so i will look a bit more at that, thanks for the info.

  • I know you said you hate heights, BUT this may be the quickest challenge in terms of losing your fears, and save gruelling hours, walking running etc.....think of all the money you would raise by telling people how much you are absolutely petrified!!!

found this perfect link for you here;-
