Iv got no choice really to repair it, as it has sentimental photos on there.
It's good that Sony fixed your screen but you don't need a working screen to get photos of a phone. You just need to plug it into a computer via the USB connection and you can browse the files on the phone with the computer and copy off anything you wish to save.

Wish I had known that, they wiped everything off which was bit surprising as they only changed screen which is plug and play.live and learn. Now all my pics gets backed up
  • I've had a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact for 6 weeks. A hairline crack in screen has rendered the screen unusable. Vodafone sent the phone for repair under warranty. Repairers have said they will only repair for a charge of £144. I'm not prepared to pay this as the fault seems to be with the handset. I've never broken a phone in 20years and not dropped or misused the Sony. I'd welcome any advise on how to get phone repaired for free?

The only way is to sue Vodafone.
However, it's impossible to predict the outcome.

Why don't you do what the OP did and send it back to Sony to asses, they replaced the screen for free.
It's not just about the money
  • Glad Sony's customer support could help you, I've had nothing but good experience from them myself. A lot of people seem to have issues though. I believe they do warn you about your data though, maybe you just didn't see it or maybe they missed it off - but it's due to data protection. If you left your SIM or SD card in then they destroy those too I believe.
