Can online retailer charge a 'usage fee' for a pushchair they are unable to replace?

If I buy new and it goes wrong I certainly wouldn't want to end up with a secondhand replacement.

It depends how long you've owned it. If it went wrong after 12 months then a working replacement that is 12 months old would be perfectly fair. If it went wrong after 24 months then a working replacement that is 24 months old would be perfectly fair. And so and so forth.

You have admitted you are a liar...no accusation is necessary.

I'm sure you bought a nearly new car, but you certainly didn't get if half price. They wouldn't sell them with that much loss.

The last car I bought was a 2012 Ford Focus. This was an ex demo vehicle, was 5 months old with 3k on the clock and had just about every extra possible extra fitted.
The cost to buy this car new would have been £16, 200. I paid slightly over £9000.
Not quite a 50% reduction but not too far off and as the link at the top shows, if you buy at the right time of the year when the dealer is trying to offload pre-registered vehicles, a 50% saving on book price is easily possible on on certain models.

In your opinion, which means very little.

The pushchair in question is still under guarantee and they could offer no remedy.

You are trying to make your offer better than it was by saying slightly over £9000 and being more exact with the list price.

gik's car was supposed to be 3 months old with 2.5k on the clock. I know you can get some good offers but not 50% on that model.

While I do find it unlikely a dealer would do it, it is possible. Dealers do give quite big discounts off demo cars - and they've not even usually got many miles on them.

Then there are also car auctions. Perhaps a bit of hit and a miss but if you know what to look for, you can pick up huge bargains at less than half the price a dealer will charge. Years ago I picked up a car with only 2600 miles on it - despite being 18 months old at a third of the price dealerships were charging for cars of the same age with 30K+ miles! It went through 6 MOT's without needing any major work (ie not counting wipers, tyres and the stuff that needs replacing anyway) before I parted with it

I admit brand spanking new cars (6 months or less) aren't the main bulk of the cars that go through the auction, but I've never been to an auction where there wasnt at least a handful.

gik bought his car at a dealers.

I know there are some good offers about sometimes but he/she called me a liar and then came out with a whopper.

If my true intention was to make the offer appear better then it really was, all I would have stated was that the car only cost me £9000. The only reason I didn't state an exact figure was because I part exchanged an old car and couldn't remember the exact price paid.
It was actually £9100. (£7000 cash and £2100 for my old heap).
You also forgot to comment on the link I provided showing nearly new cars for well over 50% off the list price, and the cars in question are Astra's, the same cars as being mentioned by gik.

Anyway, as photome rightly stated, we are getting well away from the original topic.
As the OPs question was can a retailer make a deduction for the 11 months use they have had from the goods, and as this is a consumer rights board, the answer can't be anything other than yes.
People might not like retailers who do this but that doesn't in any way detract from the fact that provided the deduction is reasonable then the retailer is acting totally with all consumer trading legislation when doing this

I didn't comment on your link because it was nowhere near gik's alleged deal.

Well, it looked like well over 50% off the new price to me.
    Okay, how about this one:

    http://www.motorpoint.co.uk/VehicleAdvert/VAUXHALL/ASTRA/489805

A 2014 model Astra SRi (with a 2013 plate), under 7600 miles and selling for under 50% of the new price.
Provided you are willing to look around and maybe travel a bit, this sort of deal isn't too hard to find.

As with my previous car, dealers often give very good deals on demo cars once they are a few months old, especially if these are small vehicles that aren't generally used for company cars by the garage concerned.
