Laptop Keeps Freezing

I have a Dell N5010, Intel i3 2.4GHz, 4GB Ram, 64-bit operating system.

Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1

Over the last couple of months, I have noticed that my laptop keeps freezing, especially when using the internet. I was original using Firefox and whenever I was using Facebook, I would get a script error and it would freeze for a minute or so and I would need to reload page. It wasn't confined to Facebook or the internet, but happened most when using them.

I changed browser to google chrome and it has eased the problem a bit, but it's still quite bad.

Also happens when using Skype, cam freezes and typing etc.

My computer broke in March and I got it fixed and had to re-install Windows, everything has been working fine until last couple months when freezing has got worse.

Any suggestions on best way to fix it?

Thanks.

One initial check you can do is in Control Panel/ Administrative Tools/ Event viewer/ System, to see if anything stands out as significant. (I presume that's available in Home Premium.) There are sometimes insignificant errors shown there, so so don't be alarmed if something found, but it is one place to start checking.

I am running the Dell diagnostic as recommended, will report back once complete.

Reference the event viewer, what kind of things should I be looking for?

It says I have had 13 errors in the last hour.

5 application errors, which all appear to be:
Faulting application name: SpfService64.exe, version: 1.3.0.9090, time stamp: 0x4e684dec

    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0000000000057c3c
    Faulting process id: 0x23ac
    Faulting application start time: 0x01cfd4c0eacc9add
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\VAIO Entertainment Platform\SPF\SpfService64.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll

Uninstall the SONY software. For what do you use it?

Yes, I would also uninstall the Sony. Then, run
sfc /scannow which is a system check and which should correct some errors on your laptop. That may or may not resolve the specific freezing problem, but is always worthwhile to try. You may have to reboot for it to run, but it will ask for that if needed.
    Then, reinstall the Sony stuff.

Need to pop out for half an hour, running dell diagnostic while I'm out seems to be taking a while.

Will update when I get home.

    Thanks for help so far.

    Dell diagnostic's won't work:

There was an issue with the application which detects what Dell system you are using.

I have made sure Dell System Detect is installed and latest version.

On the top where it tells you what stage you are at, I only get ticks in the first two, obtaining required tools and updating Dell System Detect and then it seems to get stuck on the third step, installing my dell client.

Not sure what to do next...
