I'm in need of a bit of support and backside kicking. Which you lot are good at lol.
I got a phonecall this morning offering me a council flat :j. I've been on the waiting list for a year and I'd started preparing for another winter here, so it was great news. I've been and had a peek through the windows and it looks perfect. I'm 'officially' viewing it on Tuesday.
It's in my first choice of area. It's got a big enough kitchen for a perching stool. It's got two bedrooms and the 'small' one is reasonably sized. There's plenty of on street parking. It's got a little garden. Best of all, it has central heating. I could see radiators!! After starting preparations for another winter without heating, that's the big thing.
So I need to work on the assumption that I'll be accepting it and moving house in the next few weeks :eek:
Luckily it's in repair - the kitchen was empty save for some tools and wood on work benches. So that gives me a bit of time.
I've slipped into panic mode and now I need to take a deep breath and start planning.
I'm a hoarder, and over the last few months I've been sorting stuff, I'm about 80% there I think. My plan's to spend the next couple of weeks finishing that off, and getting a removal firm to do the packing and moving. If I can afford it, my budget (based on getting a credit union loan) is about £800.
So I need a bit of help with what I need to do/organise/check etc. If you could help me with that I'll be eternally grateful and will supply lots of virtual cake and wine!
If it's not too much trouble could people look at my lists (gonna start new posts for them) and see if there's anything I've missed?

List one - things to look for/check at the viewing on Tuesday (in no particular order):
1. Is there a phone line
2. Is there a tv aerial.
3. Measure rooms.
4. Is the oven point gas or electric.
5. Is the heating gas or electric.
6. Is there a shower.
7. Ask for time to discuss with housing advisor before signing contract.
8. Check storage space.
9. Check size of doors.
10. Measure windows.
11. Ask what work will be done.
12. What kind of meters are there.
13 Who 'owns' and is responsible for the grass around the flat.
14. How I go about getting minor adaptations done.
15. Who energy suppliers are.
16. Can tenancy support offer me any help with organising the move.

Can I just say (as a regular 'Lurker') how happy I am for you for the chance to get a better place not only for THIS winter but for winters to come.

List two, things that need organising ready for moving.
I'm not including things like tell bank, etc, as there's a list for that stuff on the housing board. I'm including things specific to my situation. Things I'm unsure of are in pink.
1. Arrange a charity shop collection every day for a week to get rid of stuff.
2. Arrange bulky waste collection for furniture I'll be leaving (most of it's falling apart and won't survive a move).
3. Get quotes for removals asap and book when I have dates. Not sure if I can get quotes before knowing the dates?
4. Get credit union loan.
5. Set targets for finishing off the dehoarding.
6. Discuss move with housing advice service (I don't want to make a mistake like I did when I accepted this place).
7. Sort out a handyman to build stuff when I move.
8. Get curtain poles.
9. Buy new locks.

One thing - try hiring a van yourself, much cheaper than hiring removal people.0 -

Great point about the doors - you'd think I'd have learnt from my last place where I couldn't get a sofa in at all. But no, it didn't occur to me!

But why not do your own packing and just use the professionals to move you?
