Upsidedown Bear, I know nets will only work during the day. I've got lots of cheap blankets (wont be needing them this winter now I'll have heating!!) that I can pin over the windows on an evening.

Jules - I'm fully expecting bare floors when I move in. That's something, again, which will wait till I get my inheritance.

Speaking of which, does anyone know roughly how long it is between giving back the signed contract and the sale going through and monies released from the mortgage company?

Completion on my last house sale was two weeks after contracts were exchanged. If you have a bed it's a good idea to do what I did...I left most of my old furniture in the old house which was a project when we bought it. The furniture had seen better days, but the couple moving in had very little so they kept it which left us free to start again.

While we only had beds and a sofa I had the house decorated. I paid someone to do it because a proper decorator was quicker and better than me. While he was decorating we ordered the new furniture which is decent and hopefully made to last.

I did pay a firm to pack and move us too. I have arthritis and it saved me worrying that I wouldn't be able to cope. Unpacking it at the other end left me in agony for days so trying to do it all would have been a really bad idea. I hope your viewing goes well.

Cranky40, I can't leave furniture here as I'll be charged for it's removal. I'm hoping that just having a bulky waste collection booked will be enough. I've been told that they take two weeks, but the website says eight.

OK, so, I've managed to get a bit more furniture outside, I need one more item and I can book a bulky waste collection. I've also got four or five more bags sorted for the charity shop.

Three of the removal firms have got back to me. One doesn't do packing, so that's no use to me. The other two want me to phone and discuss it with them, which is a problem. I have panic attacks using the phone, and my mind goes blank. I give short one word answers just so the call's over quickly, and can't remember what's been said as soon as I hang up.

I've been referred to a housing support service who were supposed to help with all this, but of course I'm still on the waiting list so I'm not going to have access to that help.

So, I'm going to see if the council tenancy liaison/support can offer me any help. I'll add it on the list of things to talk about tomorrow.

I also had my physio assessment today, which was really positive. She's going to refer me to the pain clinic and for steroid injections in my hip, and I'm joining a pilates group. She also gave me a stack of leaflets for other help that's out there.

Then I saw my GP, when he asked about my mental health I started talking about the move and my problems, but he cut me off, all he wanted to know is if I'm getting thoughts of self harm or suicide, and as I'm not then apparantly my mental health's fine. So slightly less useful.

Anyway, that's three medical appointments this week down (I had an MRI yesterday), and just one more to go. I'll have to start keeping track of all the new referrals and departments to make sure they all get my new address if I move. (I say 'if' because I'm trying not to get too excited in case it turns out to be unsuitable tomorrow).

Bin day tomorrow, so this evening I'll be sorting through stuff and making sure it's as full as I can get it.

Thanks again for all the support.

it sounds like you're doing just fine. ;)

Bad doctor for his attitude though.

I hope you can get help with arranging the removal company.

Fingers crossed that the flat turns out to be perfect for you.
    We'll be waiting to hear.
  • Hi hun, longtime no chat

glad to hear you could be moving to a new flat
    just a few thoughts
The gas electric and water, take meter readings of both places, on the day you leave the old flat
and the day you get the keys for the new one, I would also sugguest you take photos of them
as the utility companys are pigging useless.

Yes you can get the prepayment swapped for free.

If you are staying with your current supplier you currently have they should be a tell you, they'll have to close your current account(old flat) and start a new one (new flat), can take upto 6-8 weeks
thats why you need the meter readings.

Phone or email Yorkshire Water (and don't panic if you do phone) ask them if the new flat is on a water meter and where it is, if not ask for one thats free

Gas and electric few pages for you to check about who supplies the new flat

    http://www.mypropertyguide.co.uk/articles/display/10041/who-supplies-my-gas-and-electric.htm

or you could ask on the MSE Energy board,

I can (probably might involve a lot of swearing) put together the flat pack stuff for you if you want,
Heavy lifting is something I can't do anymore due to a dodgy neck and wonky arm, but we can work around stuff like that.

and for the people who don't know, me and Ames have met before (a few times) , just trying to help out an old DFW'er

Could you email them, rather than phoning them? Just a thought.

    Good luck, Ames xx

I believe they have a contact us section on the website - I think I changed Direct Debits with them electronically rather than over the phone.

Numpteeeeee! Long time no read. Thanks for the offer of help, I may have to take you up on it. I am happy to learn from your experience of utility companies!

MrsAtobe, I did originally fill in online forms, even listing all the furniture, but they want to speak to me or even visit to be able to give a quote.
