We had one installed a year ago - it's changed my life! And no more arguments about whose turn it is to wash up or if the dishes haven't been cleaned properly.
I'm hoping that I will no longer have to moan at hubby for not rinsing the soap suds off the glassware. Most of them look like they've been licked clean at the moment

It isn't just the cost of the powder/ salt/ rinse-aid, but how you value your time.

I got a counter top dishwasher from Freecycle a few years ago. It was rubbish and the cost of the tablets etc, in comparison to a bottle of Lidl's washing up liquid, was horrendous.

    We got rid of it.

    I love my dishwasher.
I have a small kitchen so being able to put things straight into helps keep surfaces clear.
I use Aldi tablets & they're just as good as the expensive ones.

We've recently bought our first home and are having a dishwasher installed in the next few weeks. I can't wait! I value my time with my nearly-three-year-old more, and although my husband often washes the dishes, bless him he's not really that good at it, so I'm hoping a dishwasher will save me from having to rewash everything he does (we also have the 'licked clean' look onlyroz describes above...)

I got shot of the big full sized Miele that we had as for just three of us it wasn't worth it. Took ages and seeing as most dishes were things like cups and sandwich plates seemed a complete over kill

However when fitting the new kitchen i put in a slimline. Takes about two days to fill it up still. Only uses half a tablet and is very economical. I do however still do roasting pans etc by hand as no dishwasher can get them as clean as me
  • I never wanted a dishwasher but when we (2 of us) moved into our new house someone very generous bought us one as a housewarming gift.

    Best invention ever. :T

It's still my favourite thing in the house 4 years later. I buy Fairy or Finish tablets but only when they're on offer and I shop around regularly.

We got a countertop dishwasher in 1966. It was brilliant and the cost of tablets etc in comparison to time wasted and the sheer tedious naffness of hand washing was piddling.

It was the first appliance I bought when I got my own house.

A washing machine is a godsend (I am speaking as someone who had to use launderettes for years!) but a dishwasher is a bit unnecessary in my opinion. There is something therapeutic about washing up by hand!

We fitted a dishwasher when we had the kitchen renovated about five years ago. There are only two of us, so I didn't really see the need for one - however.
They really come into their own if you have guests, and it means that you can clear the kitchen of dirty dishes in minutes.
We also use it several times in the year to get glasses and cutlery looking like new, because hand washing cannot get a finish close to dishwasher clean.
After five years, we are still on the original box of Finish tabs and large bag of salt.
