Dishwasher costs

Hi all, I'm just looking for neutral opinions please- We have recently bought a flat(our first home) and are debating whether to see if we can get a slim line dishwasher installed. We are expecting our first baby in December so will be a family of 3. I'm just wondering how a dishwasher will impact on monthly costs, e.g dishwasher tablets, maintenance and water bills??
Many thanks in advance

  • I use aldi tablets, they are really cheap. The salt from aldi too at 99p a bag.
I don't notice water costs as I'm not on a meter.
    I wouldn't be without my dishwasher now, it's a godsend :)

My water use went down with a dishwasher.

I also used to put baby bottles in it to sterilise them. I love my dishwasher. Best thing I ever bought.

You can have your choice of one of my two dishwashers if you want to collect. No charge.

    1) fully integrated Bosch - used 5 or 6 times in 10 years. Obviously no warranty, but I do have a large supply of unused Finish tablets that you can take.

    2) my husband who does all the washing up as he "doesn't believe" that washing machines do as good a job as he does. Also comes without a warranty, but does need regular supplies of beer to work at his optimum level. Also excellent at nappy changes and night feeds as a "bonus feature"

PM me and you can collect at your convenience :D

Never had one.. there's only 2 of us, so it's never seemed worth it. Would a baby create that much more washing-up?

I've got a slimline, its just me but its still worth using it. They're actually very efficient and use less water and energy than washing up by hand. Cost of tablets depends how often you run it of course, but I've found that the cheapest value brands clean just as well as the more expensive ones that claim to be high tech and super effective.

I love it, wouldn't be without one now!
  • Only two of us but I wouldn't be without a dishwasher. They use less water than washing up. They also wash up considerably better than Mr BD ever managed to do ;) Don't think they cost that much to run but here you go an article on running costs http://www.which.co.uk/home-and-garden/home-appliances/guides/dishwasher-energy-costs/

We have very hard water here and an elderly integrated dishwasher. So we need to buy super dooper tablets but they are regularly on special offer at Tesco's so we get them then.

You will be very busy (and likely tired) with new baby - congrats :j - I think a dishwasher will be a godsend. I would certainly replace ours when it conks out.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

  • We bought one a year ago when we moved in to our own place(having not ever had one in our own houses) and haven't looked back. Get more time in the evening, water/elec low, use sains own tabs which work out cheaply - we don't even run it every day!

  • Love my dishwasher and wouldn't be without it even though its just the 2 of us.

Tend to buy finish tablets from poundland (£1 for 10)
