Hi i'm alreday with AOL so i checked out the offer with them.
I was told it's going to available sometime in early September, and that if you are out of contract then it's fine to apply. There are several packages that will make you eligible for the laptop offer, they are :-
There is a choice of package available for customers :
Monthly Charge
19.99 with ‘Pay As You Go’ AOL Talk
£22.49 with inclusive Evening and Weekend landline calls
£24.99 with inclusive unlimited national landline calls
£29.99 without any call package
No idea what Pay as you go AOL talk is, hoping i can just have it, and not use it.
One question i would like to know, if the laptop has Vista will it be compatible with my desktop that has XP pro?
Katy:TAre they internet phone packages, as I dont want to change my landline package.

On the advert on the carphone warehouse website it doesn't mention anything about having to take AOL talk. I'm already with AOL on £14.99 2mb service and came out of contract 2 months ago. They emailed me today offering 8MB and aol talk evenings and weekends for £17.99/month if I signup for another 18 months.
It is really not practical for me to take AOL talk (and im sure others) as all the calls are billed to your internet account. I live with my parents and they pay the phone bill, I pay for the internet. I never use the landline for calls and they never use the internet so I'm damn'd if Im going to have my parents phone calls taken off my credit card every month.
It's stupid, If I went down the AOL talk route, parents would have to pay BT Line rental, I pay broadband subscription then parents also have to give me money to cover the calls they've made outside evenings and weekends.
No thanks, too much hassle!0 -
I'm planning on changing ISP anyway to get a cheaper deal and I requested my MAC code a few days ago. When I came across this it sounded interesting, mainly because my son's going to University and the free laptop would be useful. But, I'm sceptical about it. AOL have a product called Wireless Plus which seems to fit the details on CPW website. But, it's £19.99 for three months and then it goes upto £24.99. If this is the product on offer it's not worth it for me as I'd end up paying more than I am now. Nearest model I can get to this on the Dell site is the Inspiron 6400 which is £399 including delivery. Still a decent deal but after working out the extra I'd have to pay over the two years it's not for me.0

Pay as you go AOL Talk will probably mean your line will be set to automatically make all calls through AOL to while keeping the line rental with BT. You can still make calls with BT or any other company by using another prefix code.0 -
£19.99 with ‘Pay As You Go’ AOL Talk
£22.49 with inclusive Evening and Weekend landline calls
I currently use Primus Saver Option 2 (http://www.planet-talk.co.uk/SaverProducts.aspx?source=saver) which gives me FREE calls at evenings and weekends to UK landlines.
In which case I would need to go for £22.49 to match what I already have.
Total cost for 2 years = 2 * 12 * £22.49 = £539.76
Current Broadband cost with Primus Save Option 2
Total cost for 2 years = 2 * 12 * £14.99 = £356.76
In which case the *free* laptop needs to be greater in value of £180 to make it worth while going for this deal.0 -

dial 1280 before the number to make your call through BT0 -
I am not sure it's worth it to change to AOL if you need the reliability. Best bet is to stick with BT as their service is better than anyone I have tired. A laptop is nice, but this is something you can buy for around 200.0

I wonder if it's possible to ask BT if they intend to offer soething to keep existing customers?0

Yes that is true for BT, but if the other company only offers a CPS service and does not give you a number to dial before, then this will not work. You can only have 1 CPS on a line at a time.
The cheapest option which is discussed on the Telephone board is using Primus Saver 2 as the CPS with 18185 for day time and mobile calls (+ a few others as well.)
I guess we will have to wait for more info from AOL.0 -

I use AOL and find the broadband and wireless very reliable.
Where can you buy a laptop for £200?.....0
