I know that you have said that you have sought advice from Step Change.
Did they suggest that you did a Debt Management Plan? This would be my suggestion.
You would not be able to include the loan to your mum but after doing a statement of affairs which includes all areas ( you are allowed to spend money on entertainment - Step change should help you with figures for each) you could then budget very strictly to find the extra to pay your mum.
Please explain more about the car loan and what Step change said.
If you don't want to use Step change then try CAB ( one with a benefits specialist)0 -
Can you make the Council Tax payments over 12 months rather than 10 - that will help a bit each month.
Have you had a look around your home to see if there is anything you can sell to try and get some of those debts paid off - is the home shopping one really £12k ?? I thought that was a catalogue company xAug Comp Wins - :j

I have just done that, thank you.pmlindyloo wrote: »I know that you have said that you have sought advice from Step Change.

According to my partner, they said to give the creditors a token amount and that they would send him some more information out in the post. But the cards and loans are already the least they would accept after a CCJ.
The loand that's on the car is around 1,500, but as we have two loans with the company we pay them 1 payment every week of £90. When my partner phoned step change before he said, that they said to pay the car loan something like £1 a month but as it's secured on the car they may repossess the car. But I read a link above which says that isn't the case. Can you make the Council Tax payments over 12 months rather than 10 - that will help a bit each month.

If you have CCJs on some of the cards/ loans then these will be prioritized on a Debt Management Plan.
Pay plan is another free debt management company that you could use.

I really do think that you need to get some help with this rather than try to shave pounds off here and there.0 -
If you didn't have the high debts (or only the standard ones like the car), your income vs. expenditures would be fine. It's the legacy of debts.
As step one, stop increasing those debts e.g. use of overdrafts, catalogue shopping etc. As others have said - debt management advice is likely to be essential. Any savings your making on your spending would still be relatively low compared to your debt payments.0 -
Is your SOA realisitic though? I am surprised that you don't spend any money at all but for some clothes on your daughter? Never a present, never taking her out, never going to a birthday party when you need to buy a present, not one activity etc....
What did the debts go on? Because if it mainly every day living, then I think the extent of it means that even with all the best intentions, your SOA might not be realistic.0 -

Are you joking??? £160 per month equates to £36 a week, for 2 adults and a kid?? I presume "groceries" also includes cleaning materials, toiletries, and general bits and bobs.Mines £20 and my partners is around £56 as he has unlimited everything as he uses it for work calls. But i will look at trying to reduce that. We both have contacts so would we still be able to reduce the amount?
£50 is for TV, broadband and landline.
Mine is unlimited (apart from data usage) and that includes the phone, and it's £29 pm.
Ours is £20 pm and that is for unlimited calls all the time, but no TV. Ditch the TV bit of it and use Freeview.0 -
