I mentioned vbulletin because they seem to be everywhere.

I keep seeing them in blue and white but they seem to come in lots of different varieties with different levels of sophistication.

look at this site which I think is similar to what we have already.

(ps are you getting used to the left hand side yet?)

Yup, I hardly notice it now. So that answers about the changeover! I complained about the left but not I hardly notice it.

So when or if you change over some people (probably me!! ;) ) will complain, but eventually people won't notice the difference. And anyway its the content that counts!! ;D

Would we still keep our stars? And how long would the site be down while the changes are made?
I'll need sedating if I can't get on here :'(

I think it is very usable at the moment, the speed site has changed a lot since server upgrade (im on broadband so cant comment on dial up). Left hand side doesnt bother me as I have 17" screen which i think helps.

If you changed the software would it still have this sort of look or would you change the whole thing to something like sra555 suggested?

I agree with Diva on this. ;)
I am also on broadband so don't know about dial-up, and also use a 17" screen, which I feel makes a difference. :)
Also I would like to keep my user name. 8)

Yay! :D I'm all for a change of forum software, after all I did suggest it a year ago! Any idea which software you'd move over to?

Not everything would move, not all the links would work, especially the external links to the forum and the internal links within the forum to other posts.

The above sounds like a huge problem, especially when the whole point of a post is to provide a link to somewhere else. Lots of valuable info would be lost wouldn't it (if I understand it right)?

What about another forum? You could have a link to the second site, which could be Yabb or something different. The difficulty would be deciding what was on the first and second sites. I don't see why it couldn't work though, here is an example of two site useage (click on News & Discussion on the 1st page to see the second site):- Torfaen Traditional Music. (Insincere apoligies for blatantly trying to get people to look at my website!)
    :D
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........
  • If changing is going to be better for everyone in the long term then i say GO FOR IT. We will all just have to put up with the initial glitches. We would ALL see the benefits eventually. If changes are inevitable because of the speed at which the site is growing, then we might as well do it now and get it over with. Try and make sure that whatever we change to will take us forward for years to come and that we would'nt have to go through another change shortly afterwards. Not a clue about which software though.
  • I have no objection to a change of software if it means improving the site.
