Wouldn't say I hate Christmas, but don't love it either. Do like Christmas shopping, especially for the granddaughters.Usually put decorations up about a week before Christmas, but take them down before new year.Love getting the house back to normal.0

This a million times over! :T:T:T
I love Christmas for those reasons too (bolded.) But do acknowledge that some people are alone/lonely and Christmas is a sad time for them. And also that some people are not lonely and sad, but just can't be bothered with it so much.
And I also agree with the rest of your post.About people overspending and stressing and trying to outdo other people etc...
I agree with raven though; although I love it, I am also sick of people on my FB posting 145 days til Christmas, 17 weeks til Christmas yada yada yada, and I have unfollowed them so I don't have to see that crap. It should be outlawed to even mention it until AFTER Halloween! It just ruins it!!!
My birthday is 5th December. I forbid any tinselisation or paper chain looping until after then!! :rotfl:0 -

Will subscribe to the thread and revisit at the start of December. I refuse to acknowledge its existence until then.
We have a rule in my house. The C word cannot be mentioned until the 1st December.
Three weeks is plenty of time.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I must admit I don't really look forward to it..with a large family of my own plus extended family..the cost of it all and the shopping for it is depressing. Then there's the wrapping it all up...urgh
Christmas has a nasty habit of reminding you of the loved ones you have lost..
Mothers on the school yard competing to buy their kids the best presents.
Adverts upon adverts for toys and dining tables..then on boxing day holidays abroad!
Feeling obliged to visit family who can't be are with you the rest of the year!
I met someone once who always goes off in their caravan somewhere Christmas week...said they'd rather do that than face it all,..sounds like a good plan to me!0 -

 but with sherry glasses !0 -
I suppose I might call myself indifferent toward Christmas.
My wife loves it but not for religious reasons. She loves having the house looking all Christmassy and all that. She didn't have (m)any good Christmas memories as a kid so she likes catching up now. Granted, this means I have to do all the work in making the house Christmassy, but whatever.
It's nice to have a break from a few things, which save for any disasters at work I do actually get.
I don't care much for how early the shops start plugging their crap though.
And we did get married on New Years Day this year, so that's something.0 -

Yep!! I have a lovely cut glass, proper old fashioned, sherry glass just for the purpose!! :rotfl:
Actually is part of my tradition my Nan loved a sherry especially Christmas morning, she is no longer with us and so I have a sherry in her glass and remember her. I do drink sherry all the rest of Christmas but that one is very special to me.0 -
We were away on holiday last week. The sun was beating down and Christmas cards and calendars wereb already in the shops. I think it's this kind of rampant commercialism which hacks everybodynoff. If the shopkeepers were to wait until December Christmas might get a little of its magic back but everybodyn is too busy trying to chase a fast buck and no business wants to lose out to their competitors.. And I suspect this yesr with the ever increasing cost ofmpostage fewer people than ever will be sending Christmas cards, which is a shame.0

Saying that, I do love this time of year, the darker evenings and the chill in the air, but my favourite time of the year is Halloween, we always have a party then and make a big deal out of, the girls love it too!Raven. :grinheart:grinheart:grinheart0
