I hate Christmas. Who's with me?

  • I really, really hate it. I'm estranged from my parents and usually spend it alone, sometimes on call for work which isn't so bad. It's a family time and reminds me what I am missing, which is very painful.

I feel very out of place at friends'. I tend to end up lying to people I don't know well, eg at work and pretending I'm not on my own! Which probably shows great weakness of character but it's too painful to talk about.

Awwww.. :o I am sorry to hear that. Are you religious? Even remotely? As someone said earlier, people are very friendly at Church.

We were away on holiday last week. The sun was beating down and Christmas cards and calendars were already in the shops. I think it's this kind of rampant commercialism which hacks everybodyoff. If the shopkeepers were to wait until December Christmas might get a little of its magic back but everybody is too busy trying to chase a fast buck and no business wants to lose out to their competitors.. And I suspect this year with the ever increasing cost ofpostage fewer people than ever will be sending Christmas cards, which is a shame.

Even waiting til November would be OK, but when Christmas stuff hits the shops in late August it's a p*ss take! Around 18th August, I saw a rack of Christmas cards for sale, and the 2 for £8 tins of sweets! I mean August?! Really!

  • but with sherry glasses !

    I love Harvey's Bristol Creme too! :)

That's one big positive about Crimbo! The LITRE bottle is £9 instead of £14-£16, and the big tins of sweets are £4, instead of £9! :rotfl:

    THIS is why I am a size 18!!! :p

I also cannot for the life of me understand people who put tress & decorations up in November! They must be sick of the sight of them by the end of December!
I put my Christmas declarations up the weekend before Christmas - I think that's plenty of time.
I don't go for the whole big tree & tinsel.
I have a fir garland with little white lights for the fireplace, a wreath for the door. Those Swedish light arches for the front windows. A dining table green centre piece with a big white church candle in the middle & a 5 foot twig tree with tiny led lights on it - a recent purchase.
    Pretty minimal bits really.

  • we used to get our tree on Christmas eve. Decorate it with family. Then crib service at church.

But now you cant get a tree on christmas eve (changed about 10 years ago) Got it free twice when going on 22nd to get one (both nice trees). Then panic year as couldn't get one at all. Now we buy it and put it in the garage and decorate it on the 23rd or 24th unless we have family over before then.

I miss going out as a family to get a tree on the 24th.

If ours is up in November, it's down again before December.

We have no kids, from when we first got together yrs ago, xmas was great, we enjoyed getting each other lots of gifts and we opened them in bed, taking turns. It was fun. Now we have run out of ideas and surprises lol!
We had lots of sibling with little kids and we had many family xmas parties together.
The ground has shifted , kiddies grown with own babies now.. no more parties or invite s now, as our sibling do the grandparent thing with each family.

I began to get very sad over this, we became the forgotten outsiders.
We go away at xmas now, shut ourselves away from it all, and we love it.It takes my mind off being the uninvited childless saddos, home alone.

Presents, we buy for one good friend and her child, and said friends sister.
We only receive gifts from them.

So, I dislike xmas really as it makes me feel lonesome, and missing out on old family times.
  • Awwwww Aggy. :( That's quite a sad tale. I'm really sorry...

  • Go on holiday, if not tied to the school holidays there are great deals and cheap(ish) flight.

This year there was a 21 day med cruise for £800 + flights if you could leave on the 13dec

Trouble with Xmas pubs get crowded kids are off school shops full of rubbish and Easter stuff and RUBISH TV

    GO AWAY.
