Out of all the providers I've used over the years, in the areas that I'm most likely to be (Cheltenham, Swindon and Birmingham), O2 have always provided the best coverage and service; that said I'm currently using Three because the contract was a good deal at the time and I also use the "Feel at Home" deal.

They appear to have some deal with another network to provide service in areas where theirs is poor as my phone shows the roaming symbol in places on the A419 heading towards Swindon. I was in London on Friday and had a 4G signal but was unable to make calls for a while because "Mobile service not available" which I assume might have been a capacity issue.

I've used "Feel at home" in Norway and Finland and it works fine.

As you'll be cabin crew, just be wary of the small print:
Most of our plans include a set of allowances, made up of a number of ‘units’. Each unit entitles you to a voice minute, a text or a megabyte (MB) of data. To see what your monthly allowance is for minutes, texts and data, simply check which plan you’re on in My3.

If you have all-you-can-eat allowances, you can use a portion of these in Feel At Home destinations:

If you have all-you-can-eat data you can use up to 25GB.
If you have all-you-can-eat texts you can use up to 5000 texts.
If you have 3000 or more minutes included in your allowance you can use up to 3000 minutes.
Since Feel At Home is designed for UK residents on holiday or business trips abroad, if you exceed the above allowances abroad in any two months within a 12 month period, it may affect your roaming services and prevent you from using international roaming in the future.

I was planning on moving to three as one of my colleagues rates them highly.

I tried a PAYG SIM in my phone and was disappointed to find I get no coverage at home.

I also had the issue of not always connecting to the internet despite what appeared to be a decent signal.

Was definitely worth trying though. Staying with my current provider.
  • I find Three's coverage as good as any other network here in mid Devon. My wife has personal and work phones on O2 and Vodafone, we get patchy signal in the same places. My data speed is significantly higher though!
  • I moved from O2 to Three last month. Far better 3G coverage than O2 and not found anywhere that Three don't get a signal that O2 does (even just O2 2G).

I'd been an O2 customer for years, now I'm left wondering why I didn't switch sooner. They used to be ok but of late I found their lack of 3G coverage to be really annoying and there prices just kept going up while their in store staff just became rude.

I moved from O2 (well Giffgaff) to Three a few months ago and don't regret it.

I often find my self on H+ when O2 is stuck on GPRS

Unlocking your o2 mobile will not affect your current o2 service.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I have used feel at home with no issues in Ireland, australia (was facetiming while stolling around the opera house) and USA (was using google maps as my incar sat nav).

I finf reception in buildings a bit poor but otherwise its OK.
  • I have been with them for 4 years, no problems, I have all you can eat data which is very good, the internet is always switched on ready to use without any distruption, very fast, the phone coverage is always there, I always have service where I am, I wouldn't use anyone else.

Was pretty gutted that I can't use three in and around my home.

Is such a good deal to.

    Oh well.

Maybe one day providers will be able to provide decent UK wide coverage.

Come to think of it I doubt they ever will.:(
