The only thing you can do is switch your data off when you're at home and connect your phone to your wifi instead. Your phone needs to be connected to the internet to work with the signal booster, and because you're leaving your data on, it's using your mobile allowance to route calls and texts.

You don't need your data on when you're at home as you've got a wifi connection. I'd recommend switching your data off whenever you're not actively using it anyway because it reduces the drain on your phone's battery.

Thank you. I'll just have to get in to the habit of turning it off now. My daughter is on tmobile and my husband virgin, it has also boosted their signals too. Would they also need to turn their data off too please? Thank you

There's no need for them to keep their data on when they're at home, but if they're not experiencing the same issue with their data allowance as you are, then they don't have to switch it off.

I think it's likely that they are experiencing the same issue as you, though, but how much of their data is being used up will differ depending on their phone usage when at home. Ask them to check whether they've also been using up more of their data allowance than they used to since the signal booster arrived.

Hi. My daughters data has gone down so she's turning hers of from now on.
I wonder if it's worth ringing EE and complaining as they really should be compensating the data that is used by the booster, but then again they could also say the same as you.
Thank you again for all your help :)

They should have made this clear to you. If it isn't mentioned in any documentation that came with the Signal Booster, you could give them a call to complain. I'm not sure what their response would be, but if you get a nice, sympathetic rep, they may be able to do something as a gesture of goodwill. Having heard various complaints about their customer service, though, that probably won't be the case, but you've got nothing to lose by giving it a try (except possibly having to spend an eternity on hold).
  • Lol that is very true! I've had to phone at least ten times in the last two weeks or so due to loss of service etc. Most of them have been useless. Even been lied to, finally got through to one fab rep and I had the signal box the next day. She was great. One of there call centre's is in the next town to me I should go and knock on the door! ;0)

The signal booster uses your home broadband allowance ... that has nothing to do with your mobile data being used.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

What do you think it could be? As nothing has changed no new apps or anything. This has only happened since I got the booster. Thank you

Turning off "send diagnostic data" and "background app refresh" will save a lot of data.
    WWSD
    (what would Scooby Doo)
  • You may find this is being effected by Facebook (if you use it) auto playing videos.

You can stop this by going to settings on your iPhone - Facebook - settings - autoplay video on WiFi only
