Best Way To Open Club Lloyds Joint Account

  • I can't upgrade online so I decided to arrange an appointment. Really pleased with myself as I've been putting it off for ages..........then, when I'd left the branch, I looked at the appointment letter they handed me. They are asking for my passport and some other form of identification. I've only been with them, at the same branch, for 36 years.

They can stick their Club account , I'm moving elsewhere.
  • Appointment letters are generic ones, all the letters will have this info at the bottom, - if they already have your id then you won't have to produce any.
If you transfer to another bank you may well have to produce id.

Just waiting for a poster to start complaining now that they travelled for an appointment without id and wasted their time LOL.

Just an update. I received the letter with the passcode, have entered that and now the Classic Vantage account appears in both mine and my wife's internet banking. However, when I try the Upgrade button I still get the same message as before.

Can I ask how soon after the account appeared as joint were you able to do the upgrade? Am I waiting for something else to happen before I can do it?

I don't think you will be able to change it to a Club account online.
It appears to me that, if you already have a Club account either sole or joint you are unable to open or upgrade another online.

I have a sole Club account and a joint Club account with my wife. She is unable to open a sole Club account online only a Classic account and that cannot be upgraded online.

I believe that this is indeed the case. Under Existing customers - how to upgrade at http://www.lloydsbank.com/current-accounts/club-lloyds.asp it says "You can only open or upgrade to one Club Lloyds account online. If you would like to open or upgrade to a second Club Lloyds account, please visit your local branch or call 0845 3000 000".
  • Yes, I am getting the unable to upgrade message too.

I hope we can do it by phone as we have no branches within 100 miles.
  • If we do manage to upgrade, for the 2 x DDs we could use our 2 individual Tesco saving accounts, would this be OK?

We already have DDs to them on a couple of other Lloyds accounts.

I don't believe anything's changed since I set mine up on 3 x LloydsTSB Vantage accounts for their 4% AER jobby a couple of years ago, so you should be fine.

Well, it worked for us, as described in my posts above.

But, on thinking about it, I think we may have upgraded the newly joint Vantage account to Club on my wife's login, not mine. I already had a Club account (upgraded from another vantage account), and had been unable to upgrade the formerly single name other Vantage account.

So perhaps there is a barrier to upgrading two accounts to Club on one login, even after making them joint. But that wouldn't make sense - as you are allowed a single and a joint Club.

Or maybe there is no barrier but you just have to wait a day or tow for the system to adjust.

But my best suggestion, for those who are making an account joint
to enable a second Club account, is to upgrade whilst logged in on the second name's login, not the first, and see if that works. Or wait a few days.

Apologies if my method isn't working for all - but, as I said above, it did work for us.

Did your wife already have her own Club account?

    Hi drlabman and jennifernil,

As mentioned by a few others on this thread, the online process will only allow customers to convert one account to Club Lloyds. To add Club Lloyds to a second account, please give our PhoneBank team a call on 01733 347 007.

    Thanks,
