Best Way To Open Club Lloyds Joint Account

My wife and I both have our own Club Lloyds account, and we both have our own left over Classic Vantage accounts, which we've been steadily emptying since the rate has dropped.

We've max'd out on other banks' interest bearing current accounts, so one option is to open a joint Club Lloyds account in addition to our individual accounts.

I'm curious as to the best way to do this - trying to avoid going to branch and/or phoning up, for no other reason than it's a pain.

It's not possible to open a new joint account online, or upgrade a Classic Vantage prior to making it joint, because it recognises that I have one (and doesn't know that my intention is to make it joint, I assume). However, as mentioned, I do have a leftover Classic Vantage account which I could make a joint account online. I'm wondering if I could then upgrade the joint Classic Vantage account online to a joint Club Lloyds.

Has anyone done this, or can anyone suggest a better way, without going to branch or calling up? Thanks.

Apparently not, when you already have an individual one.

  • I would try opening a standard joint classic account - then when that is open upgrade online or by phone.

Did this a couple of weeks ago online.

Had a Club account (single name) already.

And had an old Vantage account (single name) which couldn't be upgraded as already had a Club in single name.

Applied online to make the Vantage account joint. Got that finished.

And then, after it was joint, upgraded it to Club.

    Worked fine for us.

Edited to add: To make it joint, login to the account and click on 'joint accounts' in the 'compare and apply' box on the right of the screen. You'll get a screen that has an option to 'make it joint'. After that it's straightforward.
  • Cheers for that. I've just added the Mrs to my old Classic account online - or at least I will have once I've received the thing they send in the post. Then I'll do as you suggest and upgrade to Club - I presume you meant you were then able to do the upgrade online.

Yes, once the conversion to joint was finalised it was just a matter of clicking the 'upgrade this account' link online.

Sorry to hijack the thread but, do you both see the joint account when you log on to internet banking or only one of you?

You both do. It's a joint account - so both parties have equal access and equal responsibility for it.

The second party, if it's a joint account created from a previously single account, can't see transactions from before making it joint, but anything from then on is visible to and alterable by both.
  • Thanks, that was really useful information!

I have now made one of my old Classic Vantages into a joint account online, and will upgrade it to a Club account once all the paperwork is sorted.

MUCH easier than a telephone application!!

Just an update. I received the letter with the passcode, have entered that and now the Classic Vantage account appears in both mine and my wife's internet banking. However, when I try the Upgrade button I still get the same message as before.

Can I ask how soon after the account appeared as joint were you able to do the upgrade? Am I waiting for something else to happen before I can do it?
